Wild lose to Calgary, can’t break the Saddledome curse

Wild 1, Flames 2

The Minnesota Wild lost to the Calgary Flames Tuesday night in Calgary 2-1 and extended the Saddledome curse. In fact the Wild has lost 12 of the last 13 games in Calgary – that’s insane. The Wild fought hard, but were extremely disappointing on the Power Play and extremely unlucky.

I confess I only watched the third period and it was tied 1-1 when I tuned in. Then Flames Craig Conroy snuck in a backhand past Wild goalie Josh Harding. The Wild had a couple of third period chances to tie it up, but the hockey gods were not with them. Pavol Demitra hit the post, Brent Burns had a slapshot that made me jump up because I was sure it went in, but it hit the post...both posts, I think, as hard as that is to believe. When I was looking at the boxscore, I see the Wild only had 4 shots on goal in the second period – what the heck were they doing???

Let’s hope the Wild put on a better show in Denver tonight vs. the Colorado Avalanche...We are tied with Colorado for second in the Northwest Division with 57 points. A win would give the Wild an edge heading into the All-Star Game break.
