Today the Minnesota Wild sent Kolanos back to Houston and brought up LW Peter Olvecky who has 6 goals and 17 assists in 41 games at Houston. Olvecky was the 3rd round pick in the 04 draft. This will be his first NHL call-up.

Can anyone explain this to me at all?

EDIT: It gets worse, Kolanos has to clear waivers in order to report to Houston. I'm thinking he might not clear. Then again, Gerber just cleared.

No, I can't

Strange move. Drop a center for a LW, when they are carrying an open roster spot anyways, and Weller could easily be put on IR if they wanted to bring up Olvecky.

We can only hope something else is in process.

Well

I’m wondering if it has to do with him having to clear waivers, or some kind of possibility of showcasing Olvecky to trade him.

Come on buddy boy...

…his name is Olvecky not Ovechkin. That ol “showcase” shenannigan only works every 20 years. Nobody will buy it…or maybe, they just might…hmmm….

Yeah

I had the same thought. Or they just want to see if any of these AHL journeymen is actually any good. Mostly since they have no depth, and no picks to add depth, and a GM that can’t add free agent talent… so hey, why not bring up some of these guys we didn’t think were good enough to see if maybe one of them just happens to be.
