San Jose Sharks (42-11-9) vs. Minnesota Wild (30-27-5)

HP Pavilion @ 9:30 CST

Television: FSN
Radio: Listen Live

For the San Jose perspective, check out Fear the Fin or Battle of California

Tonight's lines:

Minnesota Wild

San Jose Sharks

Miettinen - Koivu - Brunette
Nolan - Belanger - Bouchard
Clutterbuck - Sheppard - Veilleux
Fritsche - Gillies - Olvecky

Burns - Schultz
Johnsson - Skoula
Bergeron - Zidlicky

Backstrom
Harding

Marleau - Thornton - Setoguchi
Michaelk - Pavelski - Clowe
McGinn - Roenick - Cheechoo
Shelley - Pihal - Staubitz

Boyle - Murray
Blake - Vlasic
Ehrhoff - Lukowich

Boucher
Nabokov

NOTES:

  • Minnesota is in 11th in the West, but is within three points of seventh.
  • Evgeni Nabokov has missed the last three games with the flu, and Brian Boucher has given up seven goals in consecutive losses.
  • Minnesota has given up a conference-low 2.35 goals per game.
  • Backstrom had lost all six of his career starts against San Jose before winning on Dec. 31.
  • The Wild have lost four straight in San Jose.
  • Patrick Marleau leads the Sharks with 34 goals, conversely Owen Nolan leads the Wild with 17.

Questions to Answer

  1. With Boucher in net, Moen and Huskins not yet in the fold, Roenick, Grier and Lemieux injured have the Wild gotten a break?
  2. Will the Sharks get retribution for the loss on New Years Eve?
  3. Do the Sharks snap out of their offensive slump?
  4. Will this be an 0-fer west coast trip?
  5. Will the team be inspired at all by the new member... wait ... they didn't do anything?

Nabakov still out with Flu

But Boucher will probably beat us anyway.

by Tony_O on Mar 5, 2009 9:40 PM CST reply actions

Good for Colton Gillies to pounding away at Staubitz. How is that not a penalty on Staubitz for running Backstrom??

by nathaneide on Mar 5, 2009 9:43 PM CST reply actions

Geez

Its almost as if the teams the wild play are on the power play the entire time. Doesn’t it?

by RileysCannibalJct on Mar 5, 2009 9:50 PM CST reply actions

me either

its almost like i wanna see how bad it gets

by RileysCannibalJct on Mar 5, 2009 9:52 PM CST reply actions

I'm With Ya Neide...

I Cant Fall asleep though so The Wild are my Cure for my lack of ability to go to bed

by Tony_O on Mar 5, 2009 9:53 PM CST reply actions

So....

Whos the next coach for the wild? Any ideas?

by RileysCannibalJct on Mar 5, 2009 9:55 PM CST reply actions   1 recs

Great Question

My Guess…As much as I want Pittsburghs most recent coach or Barry Melrose…It will probably be Mike Ramsey.

by Tony_O on Mar 5, 2009 9:57 PM CST up reply actions

Honestly

I think it’s going to be Kevin Constantine, unless Risebrough gets the can. If he does, then all bets are off.

The problem is, GMs aren’t fired too frequently in the NHL

by nathaneide on Mar 5, 2009 9:58 PM CST up reply actions

Melrose?

What kinda coach would he be? Experience wise…

by RileysCannibalJct on Mar 5, 2009 9:58 PM CST reply actions

sharks goal from Pavelski. San Jose is destroying Niklas Backstrom in the crease. San Jose up 1-0. This one’s over.

by nathaneide on Mar 5, 2009 10:02 PM CST reply actions

The difference

Every time the sharks put on pressure, they have 3 or 4 guys in the zone. When the wild go on offense, they have 1 or 2.

Can’t win with those numbers.

by nathaneide on Mar 5, 2009 10:04 PM CST reply actions

FFS

It only took the FSN douchebags 2 minutes to say who scored the fucking goal. Greenlay and Terhaar must die.

by nathaneide on Mar 5, 2009 10:08 PM CST reply actions

Jesus, now the wild can’t even figure out how to backcheck? Come on, it’s the only thing you guys do! You sure as hell don’t go offensive!

by nathaneide on Mar 5, 2009 10:09 PM CST reply actions

End of the 1st period

Sharks 2-0 Wild.

This one’s over folks. You can go to bed now.

by nathaneide on Mar 5, 2009 10:16 PM CST reply actions

It's amazing

The Sharks keep pressuring the net instead of shooting from the point, and guess what? They create chances!

by nathaneide on Mar 5, 2009 10:21 PM CST reply actions

Come on

Someone needs to keep the Sharks from running into Backstrom. This is ridiculous.

No matter the Jags record, Edina has the best line in the state, and that line can play 30 minutes a night.

And Dont Forget

This is an Edina team that is Missing Gopher Recruit Zach Budish this season due in an Injury…Imagine how More Deadly that Team would be with Budish in the Mix…Yikes.

Last year

Went to the Sharks game… people sitting behind us screaming “JOEY!” All damn game long. Finally, about half way through the third we started making fun of the one lady who was screaming it like she was at a Backstreet Boys concert… the yelling stopped.
