Havlat Signs with Wild

It's Official!

Just got the email from the Wild PR staff:

MINNESOTA WILD SIGNS RIGHT WING MARTIN HAVLAT

SAINT PAUL/MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. – Minnesota Wild General Manager Chuck Fletcher today announced the National Hockey League (NHL) club has agreed to terms with right wing Martin Havlat on a six-year contract.

"We are excited to add the speed and scoring of Martin Havlat to our lineup," said Fletcher. "He is a terrific two-way player."

Havlat, 28 (4/19/81), led the Chicago Blackhawks with a career-high 77 points (29-48=77) while skating in a career-high 81 games in the 2008-09 season. He ranked ninth in the NHL in plus-minus (plus-29). Havlat added 15 points (5-10=15) in 16 Stanley Cup playoff games as the Blackhawks advanced to the Western Conference finals. The 6-foot-2, 217-pound native of Mlada Boleslav, Czech Republic, has recorded 396 points (169-227=396), a plus-87 rating, 53 power play goals and 31 game-winning goals in 470 NHL games in eight seasons with Ottawa and Chicago. Havlat participated in the NHL All-Star Game in the 2006-07 season, when he led Chicago in goals (25), assists (32) and points (57) despite appearing in just 56 games. He was a member of the NHL’s All-Rookie team in 2000-01 and played for the Czech Republic at the 2002 Olympics.

Havlat was Ottawa’s first-round pick (No. 26 overall) in the 1999 NHL Entry Draft.

There you have it Wild Fans. A Bone Fide scorer.

The term of this deal is even better, and leaves me wanting to bow at Fletch's feet. Get this. 6 years, $30 mil. 77 points a year for $5 million per. Awesome deal. Simply AWESOME!

Pass

I don’t want him based on either attitude or the cap hit.

Yes, I know how many goal he scored. I still don’t want him on this team.

Blackhawks fan here

You’re gonna love Marty, as long as he stays healthy.

Congrats on Hossa

Solid signing. Long term, but solid signing. You looking forward to next offseason, signing all your young studs?

by BReynolds on Jul 1, 2009 10:26 PM CDT up reply actions

It's gonna be tough

But I think we can work them in. The most important thing to realize is Kane and Toews already have around a 6 million cap hit combined, because rookie bonuses count towards the cap. So in reality, for those two it’s probably another 6 million to free up.

Anyways, enjoy Havlat. He’s amazing, and I’m glad he want to a city that will appreciate his talent. That being said, I hope he’s hurt for all 4 games against the Hawks.

Heh.

He’s usually only right when he’s the 2nd source and other have already broken the news.

Check out http://www.hockeybuzzhogwash.com He has an accuracy rate of 3.1% from Jan 2008 – May 2009.

Even “The Onion” has more truth to the stories than most of his predictions, so take what you read with the appropriate grain of salt.

Eklund has no crediblity

I wouldn’t believe anything that EK says. I would only believe Russo, he is dialed in to the team.

Christ Could KFAN be Any more pathetic this morning

all they are doing is fucking Crying about Gaborik..nobody caring about the signing of Havlat.

by Tony_O on Jul 2, 2009 12:07 PM CDT reply actions

Dirty Gaborik

Couldn’t agree more with the post above….all I’m hearing about is the loss of Gaborik. I have heard very little analysis of Havlat. Wasn’t Gaborik hurt 64% of possible games and 100% of any significant games? Good luck with New York fans.
