What's wrong with Comrie?

Okay, going into July, I figured, as many of you, that Saku Koivu would be signing here, but even at before free agency began after looking at the list, I was thinking hey, Mike Comrie wouldn't be  a bad pickup and if we missed Saku, they would go right after Comrie.  Did I miss Comrie signing somewhere else?  Is he a bad fit for some reason?  or am I being too impatient?   Why not get Comrie?

The opinions posted here are not those of Hockey Wilderness

Not knowing much about him...

Just looking at his stats, and they are not that great. Now, it could be argued that he played for the Sens and the Isles, and that no-one has good stats on those teams. Looking at his +/- (a stat I hate) it looks as though he is a checking line center to me. -21, -8, -7.

I know that most people continue to tell me that small players aren’t a big deal, but to our new GM, they are. Comrie is 5-10, 185lbs. Not a big guy. Look at the guys they have signed this year, who they drafted, and who they have passed on. Small guys have little room it seems.

He also made $4 million for last season. NHL numbers shows the Wild at 51.4 million on a cap of what, 56. something, right? So to tie up at least $4 million on Comrie… If it was Saku I say yes. Not Saku? Nah. He does not impress me that much.

Again, I don’t know that much about him, but the numbers seem to explain why he is still looking for work.

not bad

When he first came into the league and played with pheonix and ottowa he was a young and capable talent to both those organizations. Hes not a role player but one that gets his momentum from others creating oppertunities. He’s not much of a defensive player but in order for him to go anywhere after last years performance he’s gonna have to take a pay cut.

Got some work to do before being a playoff team let alone a contender again!
