Dany Heatley Trade Rumor and More

Here are your headlines for the week

Sens Chirp: Deadline Eve

Here we sit, the night before the deadline in the Dany Heatley sweepstakes and it sounds like the Minnesota Wild have tabled an offer that will be tough for Murray to turn down. While the proposed deal does not include stud defenceman Brent Bruns, it does apparently include Mikko Koivu, Nick Schultz and Tyler Cuma. Rumours are there would be other pieces involved both on Ottawa's end as well as Minnesota's. Sounds like the swap could include a salary dump on Ottawa's end and potentially Colton Gillies coming back from Minnesota. By all indications there is a very solid offer coming from Minnesota although Ottawa is trying to see if they can include Martin Havlat in the package. Even if the Wild decide not to include Havlat, they will still have a very legitimate offer on the table for Heatley.

The Wild will def have enough cap space but I didn’t think they would be willing to include Koivu in a deal for him. I wish the Heatley saga would just be over and done with already.

Is this rumor credible? I thought I heard it orignated with EK.

Good God

Koivu, Schultz, AND Cuma? Not a good deal there.

Yeah I have to question this I can’t see Koivu getting traded.

Rumors sure are fun, aren't they?

Alright. First off, Havlat has a No Movement Clause that I am willing to bet he does not waive. He sounds excited to be in MN, and who in the hell wants to go to Ottawa?

Next, Koivu will likely be included in several rumors. Wild fans may need to get used to the idea of him not being around. He is a piece that many GMs would love to have, and could bring back a solid return. As much as i would hate to see him go, unless he can show some offense (some real offense), his value in Fletcher’s system seems limited.

Schultz is a a very good d-man. However, he is a stay-at-home d-man. Unless he shows some offense too, his value is going to start to fade. Again… love Schultzy, but a one way game doesn’t work much any more. As for Cuma… is he worth getting upset about? Maybe. Maybe not. Hard to judge. He is in juniors, and plays well, but that has never been an indication of NHL success.

All that said, I vote no on the deal (as if that matters). Heatly is an overpaid joke. Sure, he has ability but he is a cancer. Who would center him, if not Koivu? I don;t see it happening. At least, not in this universe. Should we enter a crazy, alternate universe, then maybe.

I can understand

Koivu being the trade target of other teams. I would NOT like to see him moved in ANY deal.

The Sens Chirp guy has a source in binghamton, I’ve heard, so he probably heard they were talking a deal but I don’t see Minnesota trading its top line for a guy who has demanded two trades as well as, well…that thing with the tree.

I have always liked Heatley

But the Koivu part scares me. I’d rather trade Backstrom and have Harding start than lose Koivu.

Interesting

I’d find it hard for Murray to turn down that deal if true. And if true, I’m somewhat surprised the Wild would include Koivu. Bryan’s right, who the hell’s going to play center if Koivu is gone? Maybe Ottawa includes Fisher and something else from Minny goes north of the border, but Fisher’s a No. 2 center at best.

That rumor came and went. I wonder if the Wild are in the running for Heatly?
