"His arms were up. He hit me in the head, which I thought the NHL was now looking for. I had a chance to hit him. I thought the puck would get there and I’d hit him when the puck arrived, but the puck kind of stopped halfway there, and he didn’t have the puck.
"At the same time it’s a situation and it’s the game, and I wish we played them again.
"I got hit in the head with his arms up. I don’t think he was going for a clean hit. In my opinion it was a late hit, his hands were up. In my opinion it was a late (hit), a (dirty) hit and that’s why I paid him back."

From Russo's Twitter:
Clutterbuck’s quotes will be in tomorrow’s Strib. Colie Campbell’s quotes won’t be anywhere because he doesn’t answer to anybody

Hope it’s not a problem that I beat Russo to the punch on Gonchar’s quotes here. I didn’t think that would be an issue if he wants to wait for things to die down again to stoke the fire while we’re here continuing to pour gas on it.

So what he’s saying is that there was an intent to injure? Wow.
The problem with Campbell missing yet another dirty hit is that he is inviting more payback, and I’m not talking the old-school clean fight payback either. The odds of Gonchar owning up to this by having a go with a Wild player (ala Brad May for the Johnsson incident) are about the same as Boogie getting a call from Stevie Y.
I say call up a minor league tough guy to go all Bobby Clarke on his ankle. That’ll learn him…

Horrible excuse
Did I read this correctly? Gonchar really
thought that Clutterbuck went headhunting on him? That is ridiculous. He’s bitching about what he thought was a dirty hit, do he tried to go even dirtier and later? And shockingly, Campbell let’s him get away with it.

But see, it’s OK he had no prior history of being dirty so obviously he wasn’t trying to be dirty here because everything else he’s ever done says so. Never mind what he told the Pittsburgh paper. NOTHING TO SEE HERE MOVE ALONG!
What a joke.

They showed the hit again on the FSN broadcast tonight and Clutterbucks hit didn’t look bad at all. Gonchar is a baby.

Cals hit
Looked shoulder to shoulder to me. It wasn’t late either, he hit him within 2 seconds of the puck leaving his stick.
