Wilderness Walk for 10-1-2010

Is it October yet?

Turns out, yes it is. Russo literally just tweeted that the Wild landed in Finland. Thursday begins the regular season, for what it's worth. Let's hope there is something in the water in Finland that they haven't found in Saint Paul, otherwise, this could get ugly.

Today's Walk features some stories about Finland, some recaps, some useful words for those in Finland, and an article from Craig Custance that touches on a topic we wrote about earlier this week. Only... it's Craig Custance, so people are actually reading it.

The sun is out, and it is going to be warm here in Minnesota again. I'm sick of this. Bring on the bitter cold and snow already.

So I says to myself, "Self... I can't afford two hats, and I really want this Vikings hat AND this Wild hat... how do I solve this conundrum?" Then I turns around, and BAM! Turns out, I'm not the only one with nostalgia for "Blades of Steel."

Wild News:

Perks are a dream for Wild; hockey's for real | StarTribune.com - Russo breaks down the Finland trip, giving us the info that this trip is actually about hockey... I have my doubts.

Blue Jackets 4, #mnwild 2, and bound for Helsinki | StarTribune.com - So. 0-4-2, and the last game ends 4-2. The universe is cruel sometimes. Russo goes a little more in depth.

Lapses doom Wild in loss to Columbus | StarTribune.com - Kent Youngblood has the gamer. And this quote from Todd Richards: "It seems like we're waiting, and I don't know what we're waiting for." You aren't the only one, coach.

Hockey terminology in Finnish | StarTribune.com - Helpful hockey phrases in Finnish. I think some of these are made up.

Wild sit three nursing injuries - TwinCities.com - Three guys hurt, not playing. I'll take "Excuses" for $200.

Finland trip is no vacation - TwinCities.com - More on the trip to Finland, this time from Brothers' perspective.

Blue Jackets 4, Wild 2: Another flat start leads to another loss - TwinCities.com - Brothers' gamer.

Off the Trail:

Making the best of their mistakes - NHL - Sporting News - Craig Custance discusses the burying of contracts in the AHL or Europe. A familiar topic for those who read HW regularly. However, Craig is the man, so people will actually read his.

Enjoy your day, all.

Duh

Love Todd Richards reply::I don’t know what we’re waiting for" I think they’re waiting for a coach who knows what the hell he’s doing. Hopefully the wait is over soon.
What a stupid reply! That showed total lack of leadership or direction. What Richards doesn’t know can fill a lake!!

Do you think Brad Childress, Tim Brewster, whoever runs the T-Wolves, and Richards have head coach meetings where they exchange ideas?

Well the Wild staff did

visit the Vikings training camp this year to get pointers. Fact.

Haha, excellent, that is boding well…it would have been smart if Favre was there, but alas he skipped all of that "Practice’ nonsense

The worst part? I just saw the coach of the Wolves on TV last night, and I still can’t tell you his name.

Kurt Rambis

and yes the Wolves are going to be the worst team in the West again this year.

Wolves?

MN still has an NBA team? Weird.

Oh, and the wild coaching staff went to Target Field for a leadership/in-game situations clinic. Sadly, only Scott Ullger was available to give a lecture. Knowing this information, the wild pre-season can easily be explained.

That’s what I’m blaming the pre-season on haha. I hate the Gophers (going to UMD has something to do with that as well lol), gave up on the Wolves after KG was traded, and can’t stand the Vikes at all. If this season is like last year for the Wild, I’ll be so anti Richards that I’ll go on drunken rants about him (not really haha).

Leipold is probably in there too. He’s a terrible owner. Take it from a former Minnesotan and big Predators fan: Even when he wasn’t trying to run the franchise into the ground, he still did a good job of that. Here’s a clip from the Nashville Post:

The team’s document – described as a sort of “passdown memo” – has been in the works since Tom Cigarran took over the chairmanship from David Freeman earlier this summer. It shows that, during the final five years of ownership under the Leipold regime, the organization lost $46 million before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortization. That included $12 million in the 2006-’07 year.

Since 2008, by contrast, the organization’s EBITDA has been positive every year and have totaled $6 million.

Wild sit three nursing injuries... is a terrible headline.

How do you sit a ‘nursing injury’… Is a nursing injury what happens when you have too much fun with a nurse? How do these people get hired to work for print media?

Boogaard scored for the Rangers tonight. Hell has officially frozen over hahaha

I think Sather decided to gear the offense around him.

We tried that once, putting him on the powerplay and feeding him pucks…that turned out to be worthless, haha
