Around SBN: The Infuriating Jose Molina

Russo has the news that Drew Bagnall and Matt Kassian have been placed on waivers, so as to clear before tomorrow's final roster is due to the league. These moves mean that Casey Wellman and Justin Falk have won the final roster spots.

Keep in mind, the Wild currently have both Jose Theodore and Anton Khudobin on the roster, so one of the players cut today could be going right back on the roster as soon as that issue can be cleared up.

The final bit on these moves is that Clayton Stoner is on the final roster. You have to bet he has a short leash, though.

Well, If Skoula could keep an NHL job for so long, I guess Stoner has nothing to worry about… It’s too bad, we were kind of excited about him last year, and now he’s becoming our scapegoat in the absence of Shep.

I’m not sure what they have in store for Wellman, it seems to me like he should’ve been sent down to play top line minutes..

I bet Casey stays up until PMB comes back. And Stoner is definitely the new Skoula

And Skoula was the new Kuba. There will always be someone. However, Stoner really needs to figure it out, and fast.

I’ve got hope we’ll see that flicker of promise we saw from him last year. He’s been out for quite awhile. It’s the same thing that worries me about PMB. How long will it take until he “gets it” like he used to? Not physically, but just game wise.

Glad Wellman made the team. The only problem is where does he play? There’s no way they would put him on the 4th line and have him play limited minutes. If that happened to be the case, he’d be in Houston right now. I personally would like to see something like this for our lines (based on Bouchard coming back at some point this season, Wellman staying for a majority of the season if not all of it if he can handle it… so many factors with this idea that I have haha, and Miettinen possibly getting traded):

Bruno| Koivu | Lats/Kobasew (gtfo Miettinen lol; 3rd line is perfect for him)
Wellman | Cullen | Havlat
Kobasew/Lats | Brodziak | Miettinen (Bouchard later on)
Nystrom | Madden | Clutterbuck (love the idea of Clutter and Nystrom on the same line)

Summing this up:

1. Move Lats/Kobasew to Mikko’s line, drop Miettinen to 3rd line (better suited for him).
2. Wellman with Cullen and Havlat would be intriguing to see if it happened (please let it happen lol); Wellman won’t play 4th line minutes here and I see this as a possibility (3rd line most likely which makes me want to throw stuff lol).
3. Have Lats/Kobasew (the one not on Mikko’s line) on 3rd line. When Bouchard comes back, move him there and trade Miettinen.
4. Nystrom + Clutterbuck on the same line = awesome

Lots of factors go into this as I said. Wellman could be sent down at some point, he could play here all year (if he can handle it right now), when will Bouchard be back, etc. I like thinking about line combos though, gives an idea as to how things can work for the Wild matchup wise (Richards needs to do a better job of this during the season). Excited for the season to start in Finland (jealous that my sister is there right now and going to see them play lol), go Wild!

Clutterbuck may move up

This team has a serious need of players who are willing to shoot the puck, and players who freqeuntly *cough*Miettinen*cough* can get the shot on goal.

I’m a little concerned about Brunette this year. He’s a crafty player, especially on the PP, but he looks even slower this season (if that’s possible). Richards seems pretty set on lines so I’m not sure how much we’re really going to see.

Could you imagine Clutter with more ice time? He'd rack up over 400 hits!

Great news for Falk!

I don’t think many ppl predicted he’d make the team out of camp this year.

As for Wellman, I kind of doubt he’ll play on the first line. I see 3rd line with 2nd unit powerplay. It still seems like Miettinen has a spot on the top line (even if his talent doesn’t merit it). I’d loved to be proved wrong in this situation though.
