Wilderness Walk for 12-19-2010
Did you know that Niklas Backstrom is a worthless goalie? He also kicks puppies and punches babies. No, really. I read all about it last night. His $6 million salary is supposed to make him a mixture of Superman and the Flash. Letting in that one goal last night was simply unacceptable. It does not matter what the team does in front of him, Backstrom should stop every shot, and if he doesn't, he should just retire.
I can't believe the Wild haven't forced him to waive his NTC so they can trade him to... um... who is the team that people say take goalies with $6 million contracts that (in their words) aren't performing? Oh, that's right. No one.
Le sigh. Head to Facebook for the Question of the Day, and send in your "fact" based innuendo and tidbits for the Hockey Wilderness Rumor Generator 2000. Make the jump for your headlines.

Koivu leads a charge in back-to-basics win | StarTribune.com - A goal and two assists? Should probably trade him, too. You know, before he makes $7 million a year and can't be traded.

You mean
We can’t ship him back to Finland and bury his contract there? I mean, he owns a team for cryin’ out loud – he can take on his salary. Or the team Koivu part owns can do it; take on for the team there Kaptain Koivu.
Clearly if we keep him around, we’re never going to pick up all these unemployed goalies. I mean, a former all star like Manny Legace is still looking for work (granted we’d have to post someone on suicide watch based on his GAA, but hey, that’s what our assistant captains are for). Or, oooo, we could bring back Manny Fernandez. I mean, he won the Vezina with Tim Thomas. Or after Tampa signs Nabokov, we could always take #danellisproblems That would at least give the fans some entertainment. Anyone of those three will clearly take us to a Stanley Cup. I mean, that’s the obvious solution, right?
So all we need to do is bury his contract in Finland or something. Make it happen, Fletch (or Kaptain Koivu).

According to the Versus blog the Wild would love to get rid of Martin Havlat…
According to capgeek.com, 14 teams were within $2 million of the salary cap ceiling, so they can’t take on any salary and aren’t finding any takers for players they’d like to sell off. The Wild, for instance, would dearly love to get rid of Martin Havlat, but he has four and a half years remaining on a contract paying $5 million per. Nobody wants him at that number. The Wild are also mighty nervous now at having a center – Mikko Koivu – who is slated to earn $6.75 million a year for the next SEVEN years, starting in 2011-12. Koivu had six goals in 30 games entering Saturday.
Holy fuck
That is an idiotic statement. I don’t know anyone who has watched this team this season and thinks that Havlat needs to go, let alone that Fletch would LOVE to get rid of him.
Yep, that’s the network covering our loved sport. Morons.

You need to settle down sir...
…I don’t see your quote in a red/salmon box. If you had your words in a red/salmon colored box, then I would think you have merit. But you don’t. So, I am going to trust the “professionals” from versus.
Perhaps you should {Sorry Tom} a bit more…then you may get that box of credibility.
LOL
Backstrom worthless? I think Richards smile said it all last night, that smile looked so goofy but you could tell he was happy with THAT teams performance, I wish they would show up more often and play all 60, a 5 minute nap, I’ll take if we play every night like that, and don’t let any in while taking said nap.
Richards smile occurred after Koivu’s goal, twas pretty sweet and still on my DVR!!
According to my friends: I talk about hockey way too much.
