Wilderness Walk for 2-5-2010

We actually have some things to get to today, imagine that, huh?

Gamers & More:

Wild wins, takes another ride on goalie-go-round | StarTribune.com - Russo's gamer.

Khudobin called up, relieves Harding | StarTribune.com - Stensaas gives us a look at some other news.

Russo's Rants | StarTribune.com - Current Russo's Rants, with news re-capping all of the news of the night.

Minnesota Wild lose Josh Harding but beat Edmonton - TwinCities.com - Brothers' Gamer.

Wild's Khudobin perseveres to reach NHL - Edmonton Journal with a little bit about Borat and some other tidbits from the game.

KiPA's Korner:

Hitting The Post: NHL Recap 2-4-10: Kovalchuk traded, plus other stuff - Kevin Inpa. Classic.

Off the Trail:

6 Things: Olympic rules - Vancouver Canucks - News Features - Anyone else find it interesting that the Canucks haven't been doing more with the Olympics?

kare11.com | Twin Cities, MN | Meet the man behind the masks - Excellent story about the guy who makes nearly every goalie mask you have ever seen.

Twitter / Kevin Allen: Petr Sykora had 3 NHL team ... - Not only did Kevin Allen break the Kovalchuk trade, but he had this before everyone else, too. Sykora, done for the year.

Final News:

Why did I put this last? Because, this is important stuff. THis is one of the Wild's top prospects. Sad.

QMJHL suspends Scandella indefinitely for head shot  - He can hope the league sees it as a different hit from Cormier, but with the crackdown, I have my doubts.

L'Avantage votre journal - L'oc  - French article, but the picture is the aftermath of the elbow.

FYI, per Russo, the Wild organization will not make an attempt to move Scandella to the AHL if the suspension is for the rest of the season.

Quite a bit to digest, folks. Oh, and Kovalchuk was traded. But if you can;t find news about that, you just aren't alive.

Scandella

When I first heard about that I hoped it was just a borderline hit, but there wasn’t anything borderline about that.

Nope. Pretty blatant. Not as bad as Cormier, but still pretty bad. Deserves whatever he gets.

Holy $hit

That hit is about as brutal as any I’ve seen this year (didn’t see the Cormier hit). He absolutely deserves as stiff a penalty as any handed out in the AHL.

He plays in the QMJHL

Indeed. QMJHL. AHL has tradition of honoring those suspensions, though.

PP is kind of new to all this, if I remember correctly. QMJHL is the Qubec Major Junior Hockey League, and is part of the CHL, or Canadian Hockey League. Young guys, usually under 20.

Compares to college level play in the US, but most believe the the worst CHL teams could trounce most college programs.

I'm a college hockey fan

so that’s not my stance but the CHL is the way for the best to get to the show the fastest unless you’re so good it doesn’t matter ie. Jonathan Toews, Phil Kessel, etc. But sometimes the role players who go there don’t end up with a hockey career or an education.

Agreed. The CHL definitely has downfalls. The kids are not paid, and the only real benefit is that they get to play in the CHL. No scholarship, no pay, just a remote chance they get drafted.
