Terrible news out of Tampa, as we learn that former Wild dfeneseman, and all around wonderful human being, Kurtis Foster has lost his infant daughter. She was just five days old.

This is by far the most difficult thing I have ever posted at Hockey Wilderness. The condolences, thoughts, and prayers of everyone here at Hockey Wilderness go out to Kurtis, his wife, and his family.

(This post was originally removed due to the belief that doing so would meet with Foster's wishes. Due to demand from readers, this post has been re-published. We apologize for removing the post.)

Many apologies to the readers. Here is the deal. I posted the story, wanting all of you to be informed, and to have the chance to express condolences. Then, after some conversation with writers “in the know,” it was clear that Foster’s wishes were that the story not be a huge public spectacle. So, I took it down, figuring that was the right thing to do.

A few lessons come from this. One, once something is published, it is best just to leave it up. Despite the fact that it was taken down for only good intentions, several folks had linked to it, and taking ti down made their work look bad. Apologies to those folks. Second, the right thing to do is not always clear. Best to go with your gut and trust that things will work out.

Both lessons are hereby learned.

Having a newborn at home myself (now exactly 1 week old), stories like this really make me sit up and take notice. After getting to know my son for only 7 days, I cannot fathom the enormous grief that besets the Fosters enduring such a tragedy of not only losing a daughter, but one so young.

Our thoughts and prayers will be with Kurtis and Stephanie in this difficult time.
