Now that that draft lottery is over and we know that the Wild will be picking 9th overall the draft speculation can begin. Given the current state of the Wild and the menial depth of talent in Houston, I would have to believe that Fletcher is seriously considering dropping down in the draft and grabbing more picks. All drafts are inherently hit or miss but most articles I've seen in the last couple of months seem to indicate that the real impact players are all in the top 8. So if you were Chuck Fletcher do you hope that one of those impact players drops to you at 9, or do you trade down to the middle or bottom of the draft and pick up a couple more picks?
I think this draft could really tell us a lot about the faith that Fletcher has in his scouting department. If they find a kid that they really like in the top 10 and there is some semblence of a consensus that he could be true impact player I wouldn''t be surprised to see Fletcher pull the trigger and draft him. The Wild really can't afford to swing and miss on yet another first round pick, especially in the top 10. So taking a trade down deal that would include some type of swap of 1st round picks and maybe one or more picks in the 2nd and/or 3rd round(s) could really help the Wild build for the future.
