Wilderness Walk for 12-15-2011
Morning all. How many of you were at the game last night? Just curious.
Today's Walk is a little more reasonable today. Plenty to read, but nothing too much to get through quickly. After a game between the #1 and #2 teams in the league, most of the stories were about Kane's shootout goal. That's disappointing to me, but it is what it is. He's the superstar, right? Right.
A quick shout out to Second City Hockey simply for being awesome. The next few years are going to be a great deal of fun with them in the same division as the Wild. Hopefully you all had a chance to check out their work.
Links after the jump. Enjoy your day, all.

We'll see if things have changed
Last year a Koivu’s broken finger de-railed the Wild. I guess we will see if things have changed. Here’s hoping they have!
Koivu getting injured is the one thing this team cannot overcome
There is no one that can replace him on the team, and he is the only like that. The D are mostly interchangable. Clutter/Johnson/Powe/Wellman can move up for most the other forward roles and do poor man versions, but the only one that can do a poor man’s Koivu is Brodziak and that leaves a huge hole because no one can do a poor man’s Brodziak.
Sure wish we could get healthy.
Missed this somehow, too

I was there.
Great game. It was a lot of fun! Wish we could have gotten the win, but we got a point and I’m ok with Chicago getting the extra one. We’re still #1 in the league and they jumped ahead of Philly for #2. I’m a big Hawks fan too and I love SCH. Good people.
I’m not sure if they showed it on TV, but during a TV timeout in the 1st they played Bruno’s OT winner from ’03 on the scoreboard, announced a welcome back to the X, and the crowd gave him a standing ovation. I thought it was pretty classy.
As they should. They probably should give the guy a standing O every time he comes back. Helped build the franchise.

Love the “friendly” rivalries. Nice to see a few of you visit last night. Hope we get to see more of you each time we play, or any time you feel like dropping by.

Wellman
I was at the game, and I guess I missed it, but Wellman was scratched(?). Honestly, I don’t see the reasoning. He has been playing well and we have just about 0 top six forwards left, especially wingers. Playing Wellman allows Powe-Brodziak-Johnson to stay on the third line. I just don’t get why Yeo has broken that line up the last couple games. Gillies can’t handle the puck to save his life. He has no business being on a line with our top goal scorer. Yeah, he’s big and can skate, but he can’t handle the puck at all. Teach him to drop the gloves, and keep him on the 4th line.

Taffe
Also, call up Taffe to play with Koivu and Heatley. God, I hope Koivu isn’t hurt too seriously, that is the last thing we need.

Yeah, scratching Wellman was strange. With Latendresse out for sure now for a while (and other top-6 players dropping like flies), you’d expect him back in the lineup. I wanna see Brodziak center Powe and Johnson again. Gillies belongs on the 4th line.

I'm trying to figure out what the hell are lines will look like with 4 of our top 6 out
The only thing I can come up with is this.
Taffe-Brodz-Heatley
Clutter-Cullen-Wellman
Johnson-Almond-Powe
Gillies-Peters-Staubitz
Ugh. That’s ugly.

Winter Classic with Realignment
Is it too early to hope that the NHL finds out that the Wild are a team in this league and that a Blackhawks/Wild matchup at Target Field would be the best thing ever? Heck, I’d even settle for the Jets.
I've started reading more opposing team's blogs and one thing I've noticed.
We are the only fanbase that does not care about advanced stats. At least the folks at SCH are real hockey fans and not too obsessed with stats, but if HW ever turns into a corsi, fenwick, etc. site it will probably kill me.
oh, we have our Stat-obsessives..
but they tend to keep it amongst themselves.. they know better than to piss off the rest of us paste-eaters!

The folks at Five for Howling don’t do much with them, if anything. There are plenty of folks who don’t buy it, they just don’t want to fight about it.

exactly. Some of the Stat-Folks at SCH have been talking about how your GS and other acronyms have been really poor and that it can’t last.. but, for me, I notice the way Minnesota are on top of the league and leave it at that.. maybe you can’t sustain but it’s up to everyone else to catch you, right?

So hopefully Bouchard plays this weekend, if not, what are the lines looking like?
Taffe-Koivu-Heater
Wellman-Cullen-Clutter
Powe-Brodz-BWCE
Gilies-Almond-Staubitz
Seems to me that the Wild have the best success when they can keep that third line intact.
dropping by the day after
to, again, say “Well Played” to both the Wild and this blog.. last night was a ton of fun: me and my little brother (GerDevine) had our first ‘my team against your team’ game together, a bunch of beers and snacks and some cracking Hockey to watch.. also some great inter-blog talk.
Here’s to a great ‘Mutual respect’ rivalry in the re-alignment!
enough of the niceties: time for the eye-gouging..

Indeed!
It’s fun to actually get along with our rivals! We don’t really get along with any of our current rivals, but we’re already good friends with Chicago fans and Nashville fans right now!
The realignment is going to be AWESOME.

yes!
we get along OK with the good people at NM, despite detesting their excuse for a Hockey team.. don’t usually have that much interaction with SCUM (Detroit) and hate the d-bags who populate SLGT.. you guys are going to have to get used to them, I’m afraid.. (I’m actually banned from there for “Trolling”… which, as I’m sure you’ve seen, is all I do..)
The Nashville folks are decent, alright.. I’m glad they’re going to stay with us because we’ve been building a “friendly” rivalry with them over the last few years.

Ok, I lied. There is little chance of me not being mean. <-Required at sign up.
but only towards “the good people at NM”? What the hell! Name me one. And Stacie7 does not count.
Agreed on SCUM. This is good natured respectful hate.
Agreed on Smashville. They are the little brother SCUM always taunted us with. But I mean this in a positive way.
Agreed on the douchebags in ST. Louis in all regards.

I look forward to a good rivalry with your Wild. I love the fine folks of Minnesota. Plus a mutual hatred of all things Wisconsin. ;>)

whoah!
one thing: I’m a Hawks fan visiting, so it sure ain’t ‘my’ Wild.. but looking forward to the rivalry, yes. And the ‘good’ people at NM are too many to list.. they have their share of douchebags (as does any hockey blog) and some of their writers aren’t to my taste.. but, to quickly rattle off a few.. Missy. Kent Banksy, westy99 and Semi_Colon. Granted, stacie7 is clearly a spy (:p)….

Mike, I'm also a Hawks fan.
I was giving you shit about calling anyone at NM “good”
I don’t agree. westy and semi are both douchebags, although I’ve never had the pleasure of conversing with Kent, I’m going to beat the rush and just assume he is as well.
Yes, yes, I know what happens when we assume.

I was at the game
I got to sit in the Club Level for the first time and Rocky Wirtz was walking around before the game with some other Chicago managment execs and one of them was wearing a Stanley Cup ring. He showed it to us and it was fucking amazing. Then, when we got to our seats we found out our whole row had won free Red Baron pizza and they put us up on the big screen. It was a pretty cool experience sitting up there. I’d like to get season tix for Club Level, but if I could afford those, winning a free Red Baron pizza probably wouldn’t mean shit to me.
