Wild Prospect Report: 12-21-2011
Yesterday, we received the weekly prospect report from the Wild PR department. We didn't post it right away for a couple of reasons, none of which are important. What is important is that it is here today.
With the World Junior Championships going on right now, there should be some interesting information available in the coming weeks. For now, we look over the information we have at hand, and do our best to garner something usable from that information. You know, such as the 54 (!) points in 32 games for Zack Phillips. How does he get cut from the Canadian team? Ridiculous.
Make the jump, peruse the information and tell us what you think. As always, thank you to the Wild PR team for assembling this information.

Crazy that Endras is only 3-2 with a 1.98 gaa and 93% save %. Is that just his stats for SM-liiga? If my math is right, we have 3 players averaging over 1.5 ppg, not too shabby.

Bulmer and Zucker
looks like two can’t miss, top 6 prospects.
Coyle, not so much. If he’s going to be top six in the NHL he needs to pot more goals playing against the boys (college players). looks like Coyle lost his Rolston so he’s bailing. Looks like there might’ve been some trouble in the book learnin’ dept. too. where there’s smoke there’s fire.
Coyle’s departure comes just days after Parker dismissed senior Corey Trivino from the team after Trivino’s was arrested Sunday and charged with three counts of indecent assault and battery, two counts of breaking and entering in the nighttime, and one count of assault with attempt to rape.
Trivino was the team’s leading scorer with 17 points (13 goals, 4 assists), while Coyle was tied for third with 14 points (3 goals, 11 assists).
The sophomore’s departure was first reported by U.S. Hockey Report yesterday morning, which said Coyle’s departure was "supposedly due to academic issues." Coyle, in a text message to The Daily Free Press said this afternoon, “He was not failing out.”
I predict Granlund will be a Bouchard type player. Which isn’t bad, but he’ll never match the unrealistic hype.
Keeping an eye on Lucia and Phillips. Look like a couple guys who can put the biscuit in the basket.
The difference between Granlund and Bouchard, is that Granlund is not allergic to shooting the puck. Similar games, but Granlund has better moves.

He's pretty much better than Bouchard in every way.
And a little early to write-off Coyle? I think some people think he is a sniper, and he is not that at all. Will hopefully be a solid power-forward type.
except butch never put up 150 in a season
Granlund will do it 20 years in a row :D

Granlund
Depends what the situation is. If you expect him to score 100 points per season with the Wild, you’ll probably be disappointed. If you expect about the same production as Koivu, he should be able to do it with about 2 years of NHL experience. Don’t forget that when you play for the Wild, 70-80 points is beyond excellent.
Also, playing in the World Championships as a 19 year old playing with men, greatly contributing to his country’s Gold Medal, with 9 points in 9 games proves he can play with the big boys. All he needs to do is adapt to the NHL rink, but hockey is hockey, he’ll figure it out.
He’s projected to be one of the best Finnish players ever. When you think of some of the names that fit that description, Granlund should be more than alright.

Take a closer look

I’m not saying he’ll reach Kurri/Selanne levels in terms of points, but Sandstrom/Koivu levels should be reasonable enough.

Harding trade
I find myself being haunted by our depth of D prospects. I’m thinking Harding to the Devils for Jon Merrill, an AHL Dman(Eric Gelinas or Alex Urbom) and a pick probably not higher than a 3rd. Maybe throw a 5th to the Devils to give em a warm a fuzzy. Does sound better in my head? Or is this reasonable?
by wildfansec108row11 on Dec 22, 2011 2:41 PM CST reply actions
That's a big reach for Harding and a 5th
Jon Merrill was a 2nd-round pick (38th overall) with huge upside, Eric Gelinas was a 2nd-round pick (54th overall) with tons of offensive upside, and Alex Urbom was a 3rd-round pick (73rd overall) that has a good two-way game.
Any deal involving Merrill would have to include a a high 2nd-round pick going back (at minimum). Merrill is really the best Devils prospect not in the NHL (I’m not counting Adam Larsson or Adam Henrique as a prospect).
Honestly, Merrill and Urbom for Harding and a 5th isn’t anywhere close to enough. It would probably have to be Harding and a 2nd.

Love it!
Sweden, top center and captain in Larsson(over Zibenjad) top defender in Brodin, and top tender in Gustafsson.
Impressive
:(
I’ll be cheering for them of course, but I don’t have any players I’m attached to. I’ll be hoping for a Canada Gold, Finland Silver, USA bronze (sorry guys, gotta go with Granlund!)

Don't sleep on the Russians
They return a lot of the team that won last year, while adding superstar in the making Nail Yakupov.
However, the U.S. may have the size on the blueline to shut just about any team down. Adam Clendening is the smallest defensman at 5’11". Derek Forbort = 6’5", Kevin Gravel = 6’4", Stephen Johns = 6’4", Jon Merrill = 6’3", Jarred Tinordi = 6’7", Jacob Trouba = 6’2".
Hopefully the forwards can add the offense, because Faulk and Seth Jones are out, who would have been the two best blueline threats for offense. I’m still not sure why Carolina won’t release Justin Faulk. It’s not like they need him right now.

Honestly, this is what I envision in 3-4 years
Parise-Koivu-Granlund
Coyle-Phillips-Setogutchi
Zucker-Brodzy-Clutter
4th line? Almond? Gillies? Bueller?
? – Brodin
Scandella-Spurgeon
Falk-Prosser
Hackett
Backstrom
Now obviously a lot has to work out for this to happen and the Wild need to hit almost home runs on a lot of their recent prospects. I’ve probably unfairly left Larsson off because I haven’t seen him play. But he or maybe even Seto could be part of what lands us our final piece which I believe is a stud defenseman, whoever the Shea Weber-like player is in 3-4 years. And yes I am in the minority who believes the Wild will pursue Parise this off season and successfully sign him. Oh and I have the Wild resigning Backstrom to a discount to be Hackett’s eventual backup. Quite the pipe dream I have huh?
Parise Koivu Granlund would be so sick

In three years, Brodziak will not be here, and will be a shell of himself. Just my guess. Also, no way in hell does Zucker end up on the third line. They would sooner ditch Setoguchi. Cody Almond’s days are numbered. My bet is once he becomes a UFA, he’ll be in Europe.
In your D pairings, I can see Scandella with Brodin. Spurgeon has been good, but when they start their run, I think he’ll be gone. Niklas Backstrom won’t make it through his next contract here. Not a chance.
