Minnesota Wild Prospects Report - February 1, 2011

Once again, our good friends at Minnesota Wild Media Relations have made our jobs easier and shared with us (to share with all of you) the updated prospects report.

While the Wild were on their ASG break, Brent Burns was not playing defense and Martin Havlat was actually backchecking, the Houston Aeros wrapped up one of the best months in franchise history and moved into first place in the Western Conference of the AHL.

Star-divide

The Aeros earned a pair of extra session wins last week, topping Syracuse 4-3 in overtime on Wednesday and Abbottsford 4-3 in a shootout on Friday. C Chad Rau led the squad with three points (0-3=3) while G Anton Khudobin stopped 41 of 47 shots to earn both victories. Overall, LW Robbie Earl owns 33 points (16-17=33) to lead the Aeros. Khudobin owns a team-best 15 wins while G Matt Hackett leads in goals against average (2.47) and save percentage (.913).

Endras seems to be having a not-so-great season. Is that true or are the numbers not telling the whole tale? At the very least he seems to be getting a lot of minutes. On the flip side, Kuemper is looking like a rock star in Red Deer. I am very curious to see where all of our goalie prospects end up next season.

Kuemper is leaping up the prospect lists

I haven’t seen one kid make this kind of jump in a long time, especially a goalie. His numbers are, frankly, ridiculous. He has a closet full of WHL goalie of the week awards and with the number of games he’s played, those numbers are not a fluke. I’m just shocked by his season, especially when looking back at the dev camp when both Endras and Hackett looked better.

Now, on Endras, I haven’t the slightest idea what’s going on there. It might be that the DEL is a weak defensive league, or his team is terrible and he’s the only reason they aren’t even worse, but the numbers are troubling, especially with how good he looked at the WCs and camp last summer.

So what's the next step with ol' Darcy then?

Is he Houston bound next year?

Someone needs to take over for Borat.

Kuemper’s one SO away from tying the WHL record with Justin Pogge and it’s February 1. Red Deer is a great team, but that’s how ridiculous his season has been.

As for Endras, his team (Augsburg) is horrible and in the DEL cellar. I don’t believe his numbers showcase his talent but at this point the sooner he comes over to NA the better. Endras is a low-risk, high-reward signing so it’s not the end of the world if things don’t work out but a goalie can only be left out to dry so many times.

He's the WHL's Tim Thomas and then some this year.

Endras plays on a terrible team. Absolutely terrible. The guy can flat out play, but as we have seen with great goaltending, he is only one man.

Sure are a lot of -‘s in those Aero’s stats

"First" should be in quotes

Sorry to state the obvious but the only reason the Aeros are TIED for first is that they have played as many as four games more than the teams around them in the standings. If you go by winning/points percentage they are in 8th. Obviously games in hand are only good if you win them and the Aeros have been playing well, but hyping them as being in first place is a little bit of a joke at this point.

Interesting fact of the day: Kyle Wanvig plays on the same team as Dennis Endras.
