Trying to understand hockey

Hey everybody! I'm kind of new to hockey; not so much the game but overal information about it. My first two big questions are:

1. How does the WCHA fit into the NCAA? Is it just a conference much like the SEC is in football and other sports or is it something different?

2. How does the NHL draft work? Are teams able to draft players even if those players still play in college? For example, last year the Wild drafted Jason Zucker but he is currently playing for Denver in college. Does this mean the Wild retain his NHL rights and when he leaves college to become a pro, he is with the Wild team? Or is it like baseball where you may draft a college player but they end up playing more college ball and thus re-enter the draft at a later year (or at least that's how I think it is)?

That's my only questions so far. I'm trying hard to understand it all but it will take time. Thanks for helping a guy out!
