For all who miss John Scott
via mit.zenfs.com
As you can see in this picture, Scott is chirping at Luongo after Luongo got yanked from the game for sucking. If this doesn't warm your heart and make your eyes tear up a bit, I don't know what will.
Also, John Scott on Kevin Bieksa (evidence that the enforcer role still exists and Scott intends on fulfilling his duties).
And he STILL kicks the crap out of people.

In short, even if we don't want Scott back and getting ice time for the Wild, there's still plenty of reasons to miss him.

Gah I miss him!
I will never forgot his fight vs Bolduc. I was at that game and man, the X was rockin’ during that fight.

I now know why...
The wild sucked this year…NO BALLS! Scott was sorely missed to fill in for the donnybrooks. Staubitz is a poor fighter. Scott, who can play wing, would have been great for the Wild this season.
Are you kidding?
Scott while a great fighter is not a great player. Hell he played 58 seconds, count them 58 seconds of game six I think it was. They would rather have extra tired defenseman than put him on the ice.

Did you bother to read the whole post?

And I’ll put emphasis on the “miss.”

I gotta agree with FightingWild
Well, it says in the post there are plenty of reasons to miss him, but you guys have only listed one. He fights. It’s an overrated role and not much of a real reason to miss him. Champions don’t need goons in order to win hockey games.
The last 3 Stanley Cup Champions are the Blackhawks, Penguins, and Red Wings. None of those teams dedicated a role to an enforcer only. The “New NHL” and their rules against fighting make it a dying role. There are just too many negatives to need a guy that only fights. Now, I’m sure someone will come back with, “Someone needs to protect the stars.” That’s understandable, but a weak response. Anyone on a team can fight. You’re honestly going to tell me that Stoner or Zanon can’t duke it out while actually adding something to the team?
I’m sorry, but John Scott played like a wuss, got pushed around, couldn’t puck handle worth crap, couldn’t separate bodies from the puck, couldn’t skate, and really didn’t add anything defensively or offensively to the team. There are way more reasons not to miss the guy than to miss him.

You don't get it.
I’m not advocating for the Wild to bring back John Scott. I don’t want him to come back, nor do I want to devote any sort of cap space or TOI for him to play.
I was simply saying that his ass-kicking and shit-talking are fun. That’s it.

I never said you were advocating for him. I’m allowed to have a difference of opinion, and I miss nothing about John Scott.
All I said was that you’re all saying that you miss him fighting. Fighting in the New NHL is stupid. Prior to the lockout, yeah, fighting was important. Now, not so much. There’s no real reason to miss anything about Scott, in my opinion.
Winning hockey games is fun, not watching a fight when the Wild are getting blown out. Clutterbuck talks enough shit for the entire team. I’m sorry, I just don’t see what there is to miss about a clown on skates.
I’m allowed to have a difference of opinion
I didn’t attack your opinion, just your understanding of my post. Big difference.
Also, I see what you’re trying to say. But I do have a question: why is fighting not important now as opposed to pre-lockout times?

I see the difference in the number of dirty players who turtle.
Fighting has lost its importantance because of the instigator penalty. These dirty cheap guys like Cooke, & Ruttu. They pull these cheap shots & when they should get their asses kicked they turtle & the refs save them & then they guys going after them get the penaties. I personally think they should abolish the instigator & let the players police themselves. Then there would be less staged fights etc. I mean when u saw Boogy going on the ice most of the time you knew there would be a staged fight. Takes the passion out of the game in my opinion. Most of the fights the players don’t even pay attention for anymore beyond a passing interest. It is not the momentum changer it used to be.

The NHL just cracks down too much on it. Early increases in instigator penalties really has slowed down fighting as a major role in hockey.
Take a look at the playoffs. You didn’t see John Scott go out for the Blackhawks in Games 1-3 and start a fight late in the game, did you? That used to happen all the time, to reset momentum and change the mindset going into the next game. Doesn’t happen anymore, even in major blowouts.
The Canucks got chippy at the end of Game 4. Both teams were warned. What happened in Game 5? Nothing. 2 minor penalties each in the 3rd period.
The NHL is trying to remove the goon from the game, and Scott is just one of those guys who really can’t do anything but goon it up. Sorry, but his day is over.
Both good points
but I still think there’s an element of fun and crowd involvement with fights that isn’t involved with strategy, or even winning for that matter. Do you guys honestly say that you don’t enjoy watching John Scott in a Wild jersey kicking the crap out of other goons around the league? You may not enjoy the fact that there is fighting, but there’s still some entertainment value in the fight itself.
I’ll admit, I completely agree with both of you on your points. The goon is being outlawed by the NHL and rendering players like Boogie and Scott worthless. But there are a lot of people that still enjoy seeing a good ass-whooping!

Oh I enjoyed watching Boogy & Scott clean house
It was my middle daughters only reason for going. She loved watching Boogy make hits & kick @ss. I enjoy a good row as much as anyone but when its staged & I am watching on TV I will actually go to another room & get a snack or change the channel to something else. I should say used to. I live in the middle of no where & can’t get cable, dont feel like getting dish so use the Center ice package online (Thats worthless, got to see half the games.) So IDK what I will do next year but I can say I like a good @ss kicking, as long as its not mine. I am an accountant not a fighter LOL.

Is it Friday afternoon, sunny & 69 degrees outside?
It must be because I meandered all through that reply. Hell I even lost myself in there.

Honestly
I don’t care to watch fights in the NHL that much. If I actually wanted to watch a fight, I would change the channel to SpikeTV and watch the UFC. I don’t buy tickets to hope for a fight to be entertained.
Like I said before, winning is entertaining, fighting isn’t. That’s my opinion, and I’m sure that others have a different stance. Oh well, different strokes for different folks, as I’m told. I just don’t really think winning a fight matters that much when the team can’t win.
Sorry, it was supposed to reply to the post before mine, wild32384 not your post in general.

Its all good
With no Wild hockey in the post season we have reason to be cranky LOL. I just want to get the summer over & start the hockey season again. I could not care less about any of the teams left in the playoffs. The Coyotes & Thrasher’s problems are annoying & I am stuck having to play NHL11 on the PS3 to control the cravings.
