Russo: Barker on Waivers - Buyout Looming

Russo is reporting that Cam Barker is officially on waivers, and likely to be bought out once he clears. This is a great day for Wild fans everywhere, so rejoice. The dark days have passed, and a new sun has arisen.

Note: Barker is currently on "regular waivers." He would have to be placed on "unconditional waivers" on Wednesday for a buyout.

Also, please note many teams' fans are clamoring for their squads to claim Barker off waivers. Oh, how little they know.

Why take a one year flyer on the guy at $3million

When you can wait a couple days and approach him after he is bought out? After that happens, he’s a young guy that had some promise in the NHL. For a lower salary, a team could take a risk to see if the right coaching and motivation could make SOMETHING of the guy. Not THIS team, but any other team… and make sure to play him when they are playing the Wild. :-)

I would guess the though is, if you have one of the higher waiver priorities and want him(for some god awful reason) you could lay a claim and not have to fight for services.
