No, this news is not directly Wild related, but it may be of interest to the readers here at Hockey Wilderness. Jeff Marek and David Pollack are reporting that Brent Burns has signed a five year contract extension with the San Jose Sharks, worth $28.8 million or about $5.75 million per year.

Seems like a good deal for both sides. $5.75 mil is a pretty good price point for Burns I think, not too much, not too little. However, I am curious if that includes a NTC.

It includes a limited NTC. I’m not sure exactly the terms.

That's an awfully fair contract for both sides.

Burns will get another contract in his career. He is getting paid good money, but not very top tier money. I think that is a deal that gets done for a Championship contender. Good for Burns. Best of luck.

Amazing

I didn’t think they’d get it done so soon, if at all. Great deal.

Surprising

With the Wiz kid getting 5.5 million, i’m surprised Burns didn’t get atleast 6. I imagine if he would have went to FA he would have cleaned house, but more power to him taking less to stay on a contender as opposed to going for every last cent.

Good for him.

He is a genuinely nice guy & only have happy wishes for him except when he plays the Wild.

Congrats, Burnsie

This is about what I thought we would pay him.

Being from Minnesota, it would be rude to put something clever here.

So....

now that San Jose has no longer saved money by trading Heatley, the Wild are still winners counting both trades.

In defense of the Sharks...

We got a top tier defenseman we desperately needed, and we also got a guy that has more speed than Heatley (hopefully)…

I’d say it’s a fair deal in the end. But I will say, you guys will definitely enjoy having Seto and Heater on your team now. Seto brings so much energy and so much passion on the ice, while Heater is an absolute workhorse.

Exactly… the fact that Burns stays in San Jose at least for the forseeable future… a guy that may become the next Dan Boyle in SJ, that’s a win already for San Jose.

It’s only a matter of time before Seto turns into a win for y’all as well.

Waiting for the Cup to come to SJ since 1991...
