With Mikko Koivu Out, Who's the Captain?
There have been plenty of questions surrounding the loss of Mikko Koivu for 4-6 weeks. Who will score goals? Who skates on the top line? What is the top line? Who replaces him at the All-Star Game? Is the season really over?
Those are just a handful of questions. Some matter, some don't (does anyone really care who is at the ASG?). What should matter to this team, and to the fans, is who is going to lead this team? Dany Heatley, Matt Cullen, and Nick Schultz all wear the A depending on if the team is home or away, but has anyone shown the leadership to be the Captain?
There are options here. They can skate without a captain. Stranger things have happened. They can skate with a rotating C by game. They could go with three alternates rather than the standard. Hell, they could give it to Backstrom ala Roberto Luongo.
The questions comes down to... Has anyone, anyone at all, shown they deserve to be the man? If it were your choice, Wilderness, who do you give the C to?

Rotating by game
I think that yeo should present the C to whoever exemplifies this teams “process”. If no one does I think that he should just skate the A’s to show everyone that no one deserves it. Kinds like a public calling out of sorts. We all seen earlier this year no one stepped up when koivu was out. Wonder if someone can this time around?

3 A's
Go the Pittsburgh route, and don’t replace your captain. Koivu is the captain, whether he is playing or not.

Agreed
Mikko is the Kaptain, period. There’s no chance anybody else wears the C.

Who even cares at this point?
If Cullen gets it, the refs will even hate him more. One trade that I would like to see happen but won’t since Chuck’s hands are pretty tied, but acquiring Frans Nielsen, although a UFA, would be a nice pickup. Can probably fill in for Koivu decently and next year can play second line center and ease Granlund in. Cullen is better suited for the third line anyway. But where’s Brodziak? He’s maybe our best trade chip now that the ship has sailed on Harding and no one wants goalies anymore. Brodz might fetch a nice return.
Nobody
The Wild have a captain, his name is Mikko Koivu, as long as he is a member of the team he is the captain. The Pens have been without Crosby for almost the entire season and they have not felt the need to name a temp. Let the three assistants all wear their A. I think it shows a lack of respect to Koivu, the C and the game to start throwing the title around.

Just a thought...
If we gave it to Marek Zidlicky, would that increase his trade value….. :)

It might, but I would never watch a game again.

Just a note...
A goalie wearing anything other than standard Jersey (name, number, logo) so putting a C on Backstroms jersey is out. Loogy got around this by having the letter painted into his mask …
And who cares, give the C to Darby (he did practice on the 4th line today).

Wearing anything other than the standard sweater that is, is against regulation …

Take all letters away
No one on this team has shown the ability to step up and lead the team when Koivu is down. Take the “structure” of guys we have in place now, tear it down. See who steps up, But NEVER give someone Koivus C. He is the super glue that lets our team perform. For now we need to see who has the “elmers” in their blood.

they should come to my work, I could put some glue in their blood and it would be stronger than elmers.
