Wilderness Walk for 1-3-2012
Well the Winter Classic is done for the year. Begin speculation about where the next one will be played. Please note: it will not be in Minnesota, so you may want to just pretend we don't exist in this equation. You know, like most other equations.
Today's stories are all surrounding one of three topics: Jack Jablonski, which needs even more attention than it is getting, Devin Setoguchi's return, and the massive number of defensemen the Wild are carrying. Some good reads, some big hopes, and some things to keep an eye on, to be sure.
We'll keep this short, since we are behind schedule already, and there isn't much to go with. Enjoy your day, all.
Wild News
Setoguchi to return Wednesday in Vancouver? | StarTribune.com - That would be... huge.
Wild eager for Devin Setoguchi's return - TwinCities.com - As are the fans.
Wild's defensemen on the hot seat - or bench - TwinCities.com - Indeed. With 9 on the roster, and only 6 playing, something's got to give.
Setoguchi's return could boost Wild | StarTribune.com - Would. Not should. But still...
Tending the Fields
Granlunds get it done for Finland - Minden Times - Ontario, CA - Sure would have been nice to have them both in the fold, eh?

plural Granlund... that would be fun
Cautiously optimistic in all things Wild, Twins and Vikings since '77
I'll settle for the one we got.
He’s the better one anyway. Kind of like getting Scott or Rob Neidermayer, which would you rather have? Also acceptable, Keith or Wayne Primeau.
where might the NHL put the next Winter Classic?
lets see, play at the Meadowlands rangers hosting Philly? or maybe the Pens.
we are talking about what is likely to happen right, not what should happen?
Will the Real Thor Please Stand Up ... ?
Puck Daddy did a story on this yesterday.
And while it’s not gospel, Wysh is usually pretty plugged in.
A lot of the talk is getting it at the Big House for a Detroit home game. That’s a lot of tickets that could be sold, but the University of Michigan will want a cut, so that makes it a little dicey. Comerica could work as well, but the Big House is definitely the wanted location.
It sounds like there’s a lot of popularity behind a Toronto vs. Detroit matchup. The NHL would have to give in on having a Canadian team (no NBC in Canada), but Toronto is a popular market that does translate across the NHL. The NHL would get two Original Six teams as well as large local markets to buy more merchandise.
The NHL is going to wait for Yankee Stadium to open up before they go to New York. Plus, if the Rangers are in back-to-back Winter Classic games, I’m pretty sure the rest of the country would actually boycott the game. I know it would make 4 Classics in a row that I haven’t watched.
You know you're a Wild fan if Spam Whoopie Gerald-buns comes up in conversation
Regressing all the way back to high school hockey.
