Wilderness Walk for 2-12-2012
Gee. What could today's Walk be centered around. Let's see... there's "The Meltdown" to go with "The Comeback." There is some stuff out of Houston. Hmm... what could possibly be the story of the day. I wonder...
With this morning's post, and the comment section for it, it is fairly clear Marek Zidlicky will be the talk of the day. I've already fielded a couple requests for my take from other sites so expect this to only grow. The twisted thing is, with The Meltdown, Mike Yeo has no choice but to put Zidlicky back in the lineup. And what is the message there? If you go outside the walls of the team, it's OK, as long as we get smoked that night?
Tough situation for the coach. If it's me, I leave him benched one more game. I put Lundin back in first, just to prove my point. Accountability is the key here. Of course, that likely won't happen. Maybe the three games, and the position he has put himself in will be enough. There's always hope.

Good thing all the other teams competing for the final playoff spot lost too, so standings wise its like they didn’t even play. However, that collapse was inexcusable and a blown opportunity to gain ground in the western conference. I am extremely dissapointed.
the comment section on the strib is god awful
It makes me think sometimes, these people drive on the same roads as me, scary.

‘God awful’ is putting it lightly. There are people on there blaming Yeo for the loss! Some even go as far as to say Yeo’s and Fletcher’s jobs could be in jeopardy.

That has been a fairly common reaction. I don’t get it.

You could fault Yeo for not calling a timeout after they tied the game, but even then … that’s not what led to the loss. The players, fatigue or not, decided to sleepwalk for the rest of the third period.

After the 5th goal, yeah.

Hmmm I thought that's when Nashville took their TO
I am probably wrong, I was too busy banging my head against the wall anyway.
When the Preds scored the 5th goal, I was stunned. Not coz they scored, but coz I said the EXACT same thing as Greenlay: “You’ve got to be kidding me!”

It was after the 3rd or 4th goal, I don’t remember which

Yeo did call timeout after the Predators tied the game. Nashville called their timeout after they took the lead to allow the Fisher line and the top defensive pair to catch a breather so they could go back out.

I don't think so
Logically, it doesn’t make that much sense for Trotz to call time out after his team tied the game. I’ve never known a coach who wanted to halt the positive momentum of his team.

If one looks at Russo's Twitter feed...
He reports it… Preds tie the game -→ Yeo calls time out -→ Preds score with 20.8
Since Russo was real time tweeting, I’d say that’s evidence in favor of your recollection of events.

Well, either way, Yeo did what he could.
Although I’m still not sure why he had Zanon and Stoner out in the last minute.
Yeah,
Reactionary alarmists, all of them. If there weren’t so many great prospects expected to enter the system over the next couple years, and if the main focus wasn’t down the road a couple years, then Fletcher might find his seat warmer than it probably is.
The extremely good start to the season has caused a lot of people to forget that this team was looking to start moving in a new direction, aiming for the future by starting to go younger, freeing up money, making personnel changes. Then they were the #1 team. Of course, if Yeo can’t get this team to at least gut out a competitive end of the season and the team continues to nosedive, you have to imagine that he might start next season with a pretty damn warm seat himself.
Of course, none of that is the result of last night’s game. The Wild are perfectly situated where they hoped to be before the season started. They still have the playoffs to fight for. Both Fletcher and Yeo will be on board after the season unless something strange or cataclysmic happens.

I’m pretty sure that Leipold has a lot of faith and confidence in Fletch. He basically has to, because Fletch convinced him to save his money this season and not spend up to the cap because they wouldn’t be cup contenders this season.

I honestly don’t know what’s worse, Youtube comments or Strib comments. They are equally awful.

Yeah,
It’s sad because a few years ago the comment section on Russo’s blog was a great, great place. After the format change, mostly only the nuttos stayed. The comment sections on the articles themselves has always been the gathering place of the loud and seemingly uneducated masses.

Good point
Ever notice how the folks in the Strib comments rarely comment on here and we rarely comment on there?
Ummm...
I comment on there as well * looks around a lil sheepishly *.

I do as well
But only when someone says something so stupid or wrong its needs to be corrected immiediatly lest the interwebs might explode.
Its also a place where you can use your loud ALL CAPS YELLING VOICE and no one even notices.
Admitting you have a problem is the first step toward getting help.

disagree a little about strib commenters
After a loss like last night you get a lot of names that you wouldn’t see any other time. If you read it daily you would see that there are about 3or4 people that take the time to put well thought out objective opinions(hopefully myself included, under a different name), 1 overly negative person who seems to think that Russo was on the grassy knoll, and one crazy person that has about 20 personalities. As far as the old crowd, I always liked ms. conduct, six goalie/five forward guy, but there were a lot of the hybrid owners from south park type people as well. If you know what i mean..
oops
thought i hit the reply button. btw, just found you guys about a week ago, love it so far.

You’re probably referring to (a)Mgalafloret and (b) TechnoWild/Bhrew1. You forgot to mention that (a), for some odd reason, seriously has it in for Clutterbuck. Just does not like the guy. Probably coz Clutter sports a better ’stache than him.
And yeah, this site kicks ass!

I was the same way
Then i just gave up on Strib comment section after I found this site. It wasn’t worth my time to find the 4-5 comments that were actually worth reading. And any of the good comments were the same that I see here. So now I just read Russo and save my time and discuss stuff here. You’ll get there…
The place is a pale reflection of what it used to be.
I was a regular on the old Russo Blog. I came here from there during the summer of ‘09, most of the regulars had moved on to some 3rd party site after the format change. I was there for a bit, but I didn’t like that format any more than the new Strib one.

thanks for the welcome
it’s kind of like one stop shopping on here, trade ideas, draft prospects, free agent possibilities/ideas. yes, i was referring to a and b, but i do like what some others bring. i haven’t commented on there that much this season, but i read it everyday.
Don’t be. SBNation takes some getting used to.

Hey I still read the comment section too
And I get irritated by the same people who call for Yeo and Fletch daily or complain that Leipold is too cheap or that the team needs more enforcers. It really seems like they know nothing about the team or hockey in general.
Leipold is CHEAP
I mean he has only spent to the cap pretty much every year but this one. Wait… What’s that? The salary cap determines how much an owner can spend? He can’t just buy everyone like Steinbrenner? This is not baseball…
thanks
not sure how often i’ll comment, but i’ll definitely be reading daily. hopefully i can add something to the convo every once in a while.
Dont worry too much
I NEVER add anything to any conversation and they still let me hang around…
Haha that's not true

honestly I think it is for his own good. His comments about coming back quickly scare me. Get that melon healthy man so you can be the destructive force he can be. I hope he stays around. Obvioulsly the past two years have been bad but in his first 4 years he avg 71 games a year. I like what he brings to the team and hope he’s a part of the future.
