Minnesota Wild at the Deadline: Brad Staubitz on Re-Entry Waivers
From Bob McKenzie on Twitter:
Wolski not on waivers. But these guys are: Ryan Russell and Clitsome (CBJ), Boulton (NJD), Staubitz (MIN), Kolanos (CGY). Staubitz re-entry.
This is an interesting move with Staubitz. With the moves to bring in three NHL players yesterday, there is no room on the roster for Staubitz without sending someone else down. Unless Mike Yeo and Chuck Fletcher suddenly think Staubitz is a better option than Jed Ortmeyer and Warren Peters, this may suggest Staubitz being moved.
We hate to use the Jump to Conclusions mat, but with the deadline there, and Fletcher having tried to find Staubitz a home before, maybe now is the time. If Staubitz clears waivers, he can be brought up by a new team, same as he could with the Wild. Perhaps a team wants to add some grit at the deadline?
Maybe Chuck Fletcher gets revenge for Wild fans and the Chris Simon for a 6th round pick debacle.
Or... maybe Fletcher is taking this step just in case someone comes calling. The waiting game begins.

I'm not sure
Having a hard time any believing any GM would actually say, “We should get Brad Staubitz. Brad Staubitz makes us a better team.”
"Believe in the system. For it shall bring light when there is dark, food when there is hunger, and shots when there are passes. This is the divine process." Yeo 4:18
I really hope they haven't decided to bring Staubitz back.
It makes no sense. Unless they’ve decided that he is a better enforcer than Kassian.

Haha!
There is no way Staubitz is better than the Kassassinator. Fletcher’s just doing like he did with Nystrom. He’s just trying to tempt someone to pick him up, though I don’t think it will work so well with a guy like Brad.

I can't see anyone taking him.
Unless he’s just a throw-in on another deal.

True.
Maybe with Zanon/Lundin or Harding? I’m honestly don’t think Harding’s going to be in a Wild sweater by Monday night.

Might be the right time.
Hackett got some game time last night, so may as well keep him in and start trying to make a Harding trade deal.

Hackett got sent down
Granted, he could be recalled if a Harding trade is made, but it doesn’t look like it right now.

Though
They did have to make room on the roster for Foster, Palm, and Ve…Vei…Steph. So they HAD to send Hackett down. Not saying they are definitely trading Harding, just saying they had no choice to keep Hackett up here.
There were plenty of players they could've sent down
Ortmeyer, Peters, Kassian, Falk, anyone else?
It would be good to get something for Harding considering he won’t be with the Wild next year though.

Tis true
But if you don’t have a definite trade set up for Harding you can’t keep Hackett up and have 3 goalies. That would totally mess with thier heads. And I agree that they should try to get something for Harding. Don’t see him here next year, and I think Hackett can fill in just fine.
Very true
I didn’t think of that. Good point. I’ve heard Pittsburgh is looking for a good backup, Harding could be that guy. Per ESPN.

Interesting
Haven’t heard that. I doesn’t matter to me where he goes, as long as we get a decent return for him. Maybe a couple of picks.
I may get shot at for this...
but I think, if a Wild Goalie goes, then it’s going to be Backstrom.. Fletcher may cash in while his value is highest knowing that you have a more-than-capable replacement in Harding.. who will obviously need a significant pay rise but nothing near the $6 mildo Cap Hit of Backs..

there's no basis for this..
but let’s start a rumour, just for a giggle..
Columbus need a Goalie.. they take Backs, you get AWT Nash?
no? No!

Agreed
I think they roll with Backs and Hackett next season, with Kuemper the starter in Houston. Then they deal Backs by next season’s trade deadline, call up Kuemper for the rest of the season, and then he and Hackett battle it out for the #1 and #2 goalie spots for the 2013-2014 campaign.
In theory
that does not sound terrible. But in reality I do NOT want to rely on 2 goaltenders, neither of which have had a full season in the NHL. Now I think those two are going to be a great tandem, someday. I just don’t think it will be next year. And even then I think (or at least this is what I would do) they will try to extend Backs one year at a reduced salary, just to give some experience as they ease one of the other two into the #1 spot.
According to Russo
no roster limit after Monday, and therefore this doesn’t mean much more than the Wild being a stand-up organization trying to get Staubitz hooked up with another team when he probably doesn’t have much opportunity in the Wild’s future.
Ah… yes. I forget about that every year.
