Ok, so he signed an offer sheet. Seems like common sense that Preds match it. Lets assume that this happens for this post. What does it mean? 1: Means that Weber is stuck in Nashville for at least 1 year, dono how he feels about that. 2: Means Philly lost out on a chance to get a big time D-man, I know how I feel about that (Its happy) 3: Could this mean that the Flyers will look else where to fill in a d-man roll? And could the Wild jump on this opportunity?
The Wild are not exactly bristling with talent at Defense. That said, we do have a prospect that could make the jump to the NHL this year, though it might be rushing it by about a half a season. The question is, with such a demand for a strong defenseman from the Flyers, could the Wild offer someone that might entice them to over pay? Lets look at the people who the Flyers might want:
- Suter- lolno
- Gilbert- This could be the biggest fish we are willing to let go at this point. Slated to be on the second paring right now, I feel his position is something that Brodin could slot into. If we can get a strong offer for him, perhaps move him and let Prosser/Falk/Stoner play here till Brodin is ready?
- Scandella- Probably not what the Flyers are looking for.
- Spurgeon- Again, probably not what the Flyers want, but I'm not sure on what to think about Spurgy.
- Falk/Prosser/Stoner-And of them can be moved with out second thought. None of them will be what the Flyers are looking for.
To sum up: Assuming the Flyers don't get Weber, should Chuck call his buddy in Philly and be like "Sorry you didn't get a big fish Defense-men... again... maybe I can help a bit with your sorrow. How about Gilbert for 3 first round picks?" Ok, that conversation probably wouldn't sound like that, but the point is, think we can get something for Gilbert that's worth it?
