Coyle out for 3-4 weeks, Zucker recalled

Bad blow for the Wild

We officially have word from the Minnesota Wild PR on Charlie Coyle's injury last night. Coyle will be out 3-4 weeks with a knee sprain.

The Minnesota Wild PR released the following statement:

MINNESOTA WILD RECALLS FORWARD JASON ZUCKER
SAINT PAUL, Minn. – Minnesota Wild General Manager Chuck Fletcher today announced the National Hockey League (NHL) club has recalled forward Jason Zucker (pronounced ZOOKER) from the Iowa Wild of the American Hockey League (AHL). The team also announced today that center Charlie Coyle is expected to miss three to four weeks due to a knee sprain suffered last night in Minnesota’s 4-3 overtime loss to the Anaheim Ducks.

Things could be worse. There was a fear that it could have been an ACL or MCL tear, which would have Coyle out of the line-up for much longer.

With Coyle out, This most likely means that Mikael Granlund will be shifted to 2nd line center, and Jason Zucker has been recalled from Iowa. He had been nursing his groin injury until a couple of days ago, so hopefully it will not be an issue. It will be interesting to see what happens once Coyle comes back and who gets shifted back to the AHL.

If you missed my series of tweets earlier today, I took another look at the play that Coyle was injured on this morning. Watching it in slow motion, it looks like Coyle takes a check into the boards, and then hits his left knee on the boards and then falls awkwardly on the same knee on Cogliano's skate. He then attempts to get up, and tries to stay off his left left as much as possible.

Coyle did make an attempt to rejoin the game last night, but was unable to make it from the locker room on to the bench. Obviously frustrated, he hit his stick against the tunnel side before being helped back into the locker room.

Hopefully he heals well and quickly. His play on and off the puck will be greatly missed by the Wild for the time being.
