A French(Canadian) Toast! Wild-Canadiens Preview

Phillip MacCallum

The last time these two teams met, the Wild were victorious by a 4-3 score at Xcel Energy Center.

Tonight the Wild will take on the Canadiens of Montreal, Quebec. The last time these two teams met, the Wild were victorious by a 4-3 score at Xcel Energy Center. If you remember, that was when Jason Pominville was in the middle of a 10-game goal streak. In fact, both Pominville and Mikael Granlund were just blossoming as a real secondary scoring tandem outside of the first line. This was also the night that Charlie Coyle made his comeback from the knee strain that he suffered in the second game of the season. Coyle re-aggravated the injury late in the third period, which allowed Pominville to take a shift with the first line. Pominville would then bury a deflected Zach Parise shot from the blue line to seal the win for the Wild.

The Habs have since lost 6 of their last 8 games on their way to a 10-9-2 record, which is good enough for 5th place in the Atlantic Division. Brendan Gallagher leads the Habs with 8 goals for the season and P.K. Subban leads the team with 17 points (3g, 14a). Subban has been on a 7-game goal scoring drought since last scoring against the Wild. Carey Price is the number one goalie playing 17 games so far this season out of the team's 21 games. He hasn't had too much help, though, posting a 2.05 GAA, a 93.6 SV%, and a 7-8-2 record.

The Wild come in to the game riding a 3-game winning streak after beating the Winnipeg Jets 2-1 Sunday night. Minnesota is in 2nd place in the Central Division with a 13-4-4 record, just 2 points behind division leader Chicago Blackhawks. The story for Minnesota has been the outstanding goaltending they've gotten from Josh Harding. Harding is 12-2-2, with a 1.25 GAA, and a 94.6 SV%. Jason Pominville is your team leader with 12 goals and Parise leads the team in the points category with 18 (10g, 8a). Mikko Koivu is hoping that he can continue to light the lamp after his 13th multi-goal game on Sunday night.

The game can be found on FS-North, RDS, and FM 100.3 KFXN radio and the Wild Radio Network. The puck drops at 6:30 central. Check out Eyes on the Prize for the Canadiens' point of view.
