Good afternoon from today's Wild game location in beautiful San Jose California. Lots of news and updates today, so lets dive right in.
The Wild called up Brett Bulmer this morning and he has recently arrived in San Jose from Abbotsford, where the IA Wild had a game last night. He will be taking Jason Zucker 's spot on the 2nd line wing, alongside Charlie Coyle and Nino Niederreiter. Bulmer leads the IA Wild in goals and seems to be having a great season so far for Iowa.
Niklas Backstrom will be in net tonight for the Wild. Josh Harding needs a break, and the Sharks have been struggling as of late. It could turn out to be a great chance for Backstrom to show that he's still capable of being a starting goaltender.
First, third and fourth lines stay the same. Defensive pairings stay the same as well.
I know there are fans out there upset about Zucker being scratched, at least if twitter has anything to say about it. Here's the deal though; Zucker was out of place all night. Yes, there are other guys who made mistakes and who probably deserve to be scratched as well.
But when you get a call up to the NHL, it's basically an audition. You have to prove that you are better then most of the other players out there. It's not a matter of saying "Hey, I wasn't the worst person out on the ice last night".
Regardless, Zucker is out tonight and most likely won't travel with the team to Colorado tomorrow. No updates on Granlund yet, other than as far as I've been told he hasn't skated for a few weeks.
