For any other 18-year old, it was prom weekend, and it was a time for celebration. A time to celebrate the next stage of one’s life and the next step to one’s true calling.

Some had more reason to celebrate than others.

For Tyler Graovac, it was a time for friends and watching the Minnesota Wild call his name in the seventh round of the 2011 NHL Entry Draft.

"The build up of watching the fourth round, fifth round, sixth round go by, and see the seventh round pop up was just … the amount of thought that went into my mind, it was mind blowing."

Graovac is a very talented prospect who struggled with some offensive inconsistencies when he was drafted by the Wild. That was the main reason he fell all the way to the 7th round in the 2011 NHL Entry Draft. The year after, the inconsistencies remained as well as nagging injuries can made it hard for him to fully adjust.

But come the 2012/13 season and Graovac has had a breakout season.

He was represent the Ontario Hockey League in the Super Series as one of the best OHLers. He was also invited to Team Canada's Selection Camp to the World Junior Championships but was ultimately cut. But he returned and continued to score.

I had the chance to interview Graovac earlier this year and although a bit old, it is some nice insight to what type of player he is and what type of player the Minnesota Wild is signing.

Chan: Could you quickly tell me what type of player you are?

I am a big offensive center, a two-way centerman, I got hockey sense and smarts, and I am a good skater.

Chan: What would you say you would have to work on the most to get to the NHL?

Just getting stronger, getting bigger. I have a big frame, I'm 6-4, which I need to fill out still. So just getting bigger and quicker in order to get to the NHL.

Chan: I think the biggest question would be ... for the past two seasons, you played solid. But all of a sudden, you wouldn't stop scoring. What happened to click?

I think it has to do with more opportunity this year. I struggled for the past couple of seasons with a couple of injuries and illnesses. This year, I have been able to put my game altogether and become a complete player. With the more icetime I am getting, it gives me more confidence. I also worked real hard this summer so I think that has a lot to do with it.
