Wild v. Flames: Wheels falling off/Where's the ledge recap edition

Hannah Foslien

Wild fans throw themselves off cliffs after the Wild fail to win against the Flames at the X

This was a pretty awful game from start to finish. With the exception of Ryan Suter and Zach Parise, every person on the team was either invisible or downright horrible. Passes were off and communication was non-existent.

Matt Cullen got injured and came back to the game when he shouldn't have. Jason Zucker forgot how to play hockey for a bit, and instead of touching the puck to negate icing decided to try and take out the guy covering him. Let's just say it didn't end well.

Honestly, it looked like the Wild didn't care out there for the last half of the game. Maybe they thought the game was going to be easy and by the time they realized it wasn't, there was no way to reign in just how out of hand it had gotten.

After the game, the team was visibly frustrated. Parise, Cullen and Kyle Brodziak were pretty candid with the media in the locker room.

Matt Cullen said that the team needs "a better effort from everyone." He also spoke about the injury aggravation that he had during the game tonight and said he just fell awkwardly and went to the back to test it out. He claims it feels fine now.

Brodziak stated "We put ourselves in a tough spot. But we're still in the drivers seat."

Even Mike Yeo got in on the action. He opened his press conference by saying "We certainly don't seem to like doing things the easy way" as soon as he stepped up to the podium.

Zach Parise had a handful of great quotes after the game. Probably the most meaningful to fans was him saying "I'm getting kind of tired of trying to search for positives. We've got to win games. That was a game we needed to win".

Parise also stated that the team "can't afford any more mistakes" and that "The mental mistakes have to stop. That's what is hurting us right now". Parise openly admitted to being frustrated with how games are playing out right now.

Hopefully, Parise spreads that feeling of frustrated to the rest of the team and they come out with vengeance on Tuesday for the game against the LA Kings. The Wild did actually beat the Kings at the end of March, so in reality it's not out of the realm of possibilities that the Wild could win against the Kings.

5 Questions

1. If the Wild win this game, they are 2pts closer to clinching a playoff berth for the first time since 2008. Do they look like a playoff team tonight? Absolutely not. This team looked like they were the Oilers

2.Lots of eyes will be on Niklas Backstrom tonight, After being pulled, he has gone 21-2-4 in his next outing. Does he add win number 22 to his stats? Backstrom falls to 21-3-4 after being pulled. Still good stats, but no comfort tonight

3. Even though he is on the other team, Ben Hanowski is a looking boy, and playing for the first time in his professional career in his hometown. How does he look? Honestly, I was too busy watch the Wild implode to notice Ben.

4. The Flames have already been eliminated from the playoffs and have nothing to lose. While they aren't know to be a dirty team (Oh hi there Oilers), do they make any cheap shots or try any crazy antics? No cheap shots, but they certainly are relishing in playing spoiler tonight

5.Does Ryan Suter have another 30 minute game tonight? You bet he did! 30:46. Impressive since his TOI was only at 20:03 after 2.
