In a continuing effort to bring you the best Minnesota Wild coverage on the web, Hockey Wilderness is proud to bring a new writer into the mix, just in time for the playoff madness to begin. Please join us in welcoming Giles.Ferrell to the community.
Here's a bit more about Giles, from the man himself.
As a young kid, my introductory to hockey did not include a Minnesota team. The only hockey I got to watch was with my grandfather on ESPN, back when they carried the national coverage. The teams usually consisted of Detroit, St. Louis, Dallas, Colorado, New York Rangers, Flyers, Penguins, or Devils. After a while, it got tiresome watching the same teams over and over without really liking any of those teams. The team I really loved during that time was the Anaheim Mighty Ducks, got very little national coverage.
Then in June of 1997, Minnesota received a new expansion franchise to begin play in the 2000 season. I made the decision to love this new Minnesota team and the Mighty Ducks equally.
Finally, the Minnesota Wild began play, and ironically, my first trip to Xcel Energy Center pitted the Wild against the Mighty Ducks. That night I realized, I could only cheer for one team. To this day, I do not regret that decision.
After 13 years, I have a great list of memories related to the Minnesota Wild. Whether it was that first game against the Mighty Ducks (a 1-0 OT loss), sitting on the bench during warm-ups in that great third season, watching Marian Gaborik score 5 goals in one game, or the shivers that went down my spine on opening night this year when Zach Parise and Ryan Suter were introduced to the home crowd, it all has been a great ride.
A year and a half ago, I took my hockey journey to the internet and started a Wild blog called: The Team of 18,001. Not even a year into it, I thought maybe this wasn’t for me, and maybe it is time to stick to the baseball blog. But, following an incredible July of 2012, my mind was changed and I fully devoted my time to hockey blogging, leaving behind the baseball blog.
I look forward to my time here on HW, and I hope you will enjoy what I will be writing.
Today, I am pleased to be a new writer here on Hockey Wilderness. I’ve been reading the great stuff on here for quite a while, and it is quite awesome to be joining this team. Ill still be writing on my existing blog, but I’ll be reserving my best stuff for this site now.
Besides the Wild, I am a fan of Sidney Crosby, Steven Stamkos, Pavel Datsyuk’s hands, breakaways, and going high blocker side. Meanwhile, you will find me to not like Maxim Lapierre, Ryan Smyth, Oilers fans, the Anaheim Ducks (I gave up on them after they dropped the word ‘Mighty’), and those god awful shootouts.
P.S. Giles said his favorite Wild player is Jonas Brodin, which is the only correct answer to "Who is your favorite player?" (I kid, I kid)
