Sorry for the late recap folks, the HW staff was otherwise occupied. Apparently we should always be otherwise occupied.
After a scoreless first period in Columbus, the Wild came out and controlled the second period starting with a power play goal from Ryan Suter at 3:13 (assists to Jason Pominville, his first point as a member of the Wild, and Jared Spurgeon), then continued to dominate play throughout the period, peppering Sergei Bobrovsky with 11 shots in the period before another power play marker, this time from Charlie Coyle on a gorgeous play from Mikael Granlund and Devin Setoguchi, put the Wild up 2-0.
The shot totals in the third period would be controlled by the Blue Jackets, but it didn't really matter, as Niklas Backstrom stood tall and Jason Pominville sealed it with his first Wild goal with 1:25 left in regulation.
The win would be the league leading 20th for Backstrom, and another nice rebound from a game in which he was pulled. Backstrom is 17-0-2 following a game in which he was yanked.
Pominville said it's just a matter of time before he and his linemates (Zach Parise and Mikko Koivu) find their flow. "I think the most important thing is communication. We're still trying to get a [feel] for where we want each other to be in certain situations. I think a lot of it comes with talking to each other and communication, and I think it can only be better."
1. Jason Pominville (1 G, 1 A)
2. Niklas Backstrom (24 SV)
