Iowa Wild's week report

Brace Hemmelgarn-USA TODAY Sport

Here’s an attempt to a short recap of last week’s Iowa Wild games.

The Iowa Wild have played three games last week. Last Friday, they were in Rockford and Saturday in Chicago. They've also played an additional game Monday in Milwaukee.

With Brett Bulmer being a late scratch for the Rockford game, the team had 19 players dressed. Bulmer was then recalled the next day. Despite dealing with that disadvantage, they've beaten the IceHogs 3-2 in a shootout. Jonathon Blum scored the first goal of the game. A PP goal from Brian Connelly and Warren Peters.

The second period was all Rockford and they scored a goal on Johan Gustafsson, who's had a great performance with 37 saves.  In the third period, both teams shared a goal. Tyler Graovac was the lone Wild scorer from Jake Dowell and Brian Connelly. The game went to overtime, then ended in a shootout.

Zack Phillips (watch his sweet shootout goal), Graovac and Carson McMillan were the Wild scorers in the shootout. Game highlights.

In the other game against the Chicago Wolves, Kyle Medvec scored his first goal of the season from Phillips and Jon Landry. After Sergey Andronov scored for Chicago, McMillan gave a 2-1 lead with the first shorthanded goal in Iowa Wild history. Then, Erik Haula added another one from Kris Foucault and McMillan. Pat Cannone got a late one to make it 3-2 Iowa after the first period.

In the second, Ty Rattie tied the game at 3. The Wild had only 2 shots on goal in that period. The third and an exciting overtime resulted in no score, so they went to another shootout. It's safe to say that it wasn't John Curry's best shootout performance allowing 4 straight goals. The Wolves beat the Wild 4-3. Curry made 27 saves despite the loss. Game highlights.

In Milwaukee, Bulmer scored the first goal, but the biggest story is that he was injured (knee again...) in the third period. He arguably was the best player on the ice as well.

Medvec scored on an iffy play by the Admirals goaltender Magnus Hellberg. Chad Rau tied the game at 3 in the middle of the third period minutes after helping Bulmer to go off the ice. That was his first of the season. For the third consecutive game, the Wild went to extra time. They lost in shootout and Gustafsson made 28 saves. Game highlights.

The upcoming games are going to be Friday-Saturday in Grand Rapids, Sunday in Hamilton and Wednesday against Toronto.
