And then American Hero T.J. Oshie scored to put the Blues up 1-0.
But hey, no big deal, the Wild were looking so good that it looked like they would be rewarded. Especially when they were lucky enough to draw a double minor.
And then American Hero T.J. Oshie scored shorthanded to put the Blues up 2-0.
And then the Blues scored 3 more goals before the Wild remembered that they were at the game, scoring a consolation goal to ruin the shutout for Ryan Miller, and that was pretty much it. Yay, Wild!
Not only did the Wild drop down to .500 on the year (37-26-11), they also failed to capitalize on a valuable opportunity to get separation in the standings these last two days. Losing to St. Louis (however miserable the process is) is expected, but picking up 0 of a 4 possible points hurt the Wild's chances greatly. With Phoenix winning, they are separated by only 1 point. If Dallas wins their two games in hand, the Wild will only be 2 points ahead of 9th place.
The Wild play the 8th place Coyotes on Saturday. They had better win that one. Time is running out for the Wild to waste opportunities.
On to the Walk.
Kuemper struggles again in net | Star Tribune- It wasn't a good night for Kuemper, but it's hard to say how much of it was him, at least from what I saw.
Mike Yeo on returning with Darcy Kuemper, Dany Heatley and the word "arrogance" | Russo's Rants | StarTribune.com- Sound logic on Kuemper, not so sound on Heatley. Also, Yeo does not treat everyone equally. You can argue whether that is the right thing to do or not, but Heatley over everyone, and Coyle over Niederreiter suggests that he doesn't.
No suspension to Nino Niederreiter for headshot on Canucks' Alex Burrows | Puck Daddy - Yahoo Sports- This was obvious, as he played. In case there was any confusion, there is no suspension that allows a player to only play 10 minutes or fewer.
Tending the Fields
Minnesota Wild: For young defenseman Mathew Dumba, waiting game continues - TwinCities.com- Dumba should have been in the AHL this season. It would have been best for his development, and it's a shame that the rules couldn't accommodate for what would have been best for Dumba.
Wild: Recently signed Gustav Olofsson ready to begin pro career - TwinCities.com- Olofsson, on the other hand, will be getting his cup of coffee for the Iowa Wild.

Canadian Tire Fire: A Nation in (Hockey) Crisis- Grantland- The Wild aren't even the best at being a tire fire.
Everything You Know Is Wrong: Original Six Edition- Grantland- I don't think this is a Harrison Mooney-esque hockey-centric parody of the Weird Al Yankovic song by the same name, but you can still check.
