The Wild were reported to be on the short list for the Sophomore defenseman from Umass-Lowell. During the first period versus the Kings Saturday night, it was announced by Craig Custance on Twitter, then shortly after announced by the team that they had indeed agreed to terms with Christian Folin. Here is a snippet from the press release from the Wild regarding the Folin signing:
Christian is a big, mobile defenseman who has a heavy shot and moves the puck well," said Assistant General Manager Brent Flahr. "He plays a very mature game that we feel should allow him transition to the NHL very quickly. We're very excited to have Christian join the Wild and further add to our group of emerging young players."
Folin is 6'3" 215 pound native of Gothenburg, Sweden and is coming off a NCAA tournament appearance with the UMass-Lowell River Hawks. He lead the River Hawks' defensemen with 20 points (4-16) this season. Folin previously played for the Austin(MN) Bruins of the NAHL where he totaled 41 points in 87 games.
