I guess my days of writing about former Gopher Tyler Hirsch being in the NHL are over for now. The Wild reported that:
Minnesotans Tyler Hirsch and A.J. Thelen were in the first wave of training camp cuts made Tuesday by the Wild.
Hirch, a forward from Bloomington who played for the Gophers, and Thelen, a defenseman from Savage whose rights were relinquished by the team earlier this summer, were reassigned to minor league camp with the Houston Aeros in the AHL.
Center Peter Olvecky and forward Matt Kassian were also reassigned before the Wild's first exhibition game on Tuesday night against the Detroit Red Wings.
I did read in an interview during Wild training camp that Hirsch said he needed to turn up his game. He was not used to the fast pace and the grueling workouts. He did have shining moments of great skill, but let’s face it Coach Lemaire isn’t looking for individual moments; he is looking for the overall package of top level playing consistency. I am sad to see the two Minnesota boys move to Texas, but I have confidence in Lemaire that he will build us the best possible Minnesota Wild team...a team to be feared by other NHL teams...a team to win a Stanley Cup Championship.
