Sorry for the lateness of this post. Turns out I don't check my emails often enough!
Two days after we found out Guillaume Latendresse suffered a concussion, Marco Scandella is the latest victim of the head injury, sustained as a result of an Ethan Moreau hit during the Kings game. The alarming thing about this one though is that this isn't the first concussion Pizza has suffered. He missed 14 games last year due to the same condition.
Again, just like Latendresse, a concussion can be day-to-day, week-to-week, month-to-month, we don't know and just like Latendresse, it's Scandella's health that is the main concern here, not what effect his absence will have on the team. Also, before people call for him to get traded, it's not his fault he got injured. Believe me, he'd prefer being on the ice, just like Latendresse would. Clayton Stoner is back from a finger injury, so no call-ups were necessary for the Ducks game. Lundin should be close to a return, we've no clue when Zanon will be back, but the loss of Scandella will still prove to be huge, seeing as he's 6th on the team in TOI/game and has been one growing into one of the more solid d-men for the Wild this season.
Concussion problems are never good news, especially not for our young players, the future of this team. What if this becomes a long-term injury? What if it becomes a recurring injury? What if this changes Scandella's play drastically? As it turns out, Scandella has the most upside of all the Wild's young d-men, along with Jonas Brodin. We can only hope and pray for a prompt recovery.
Hope and pray, Wilderness.
