The Flames are desperate. They sit just two points out of the final playoff spot, but have three teams to leap frog to get there. They will come out motivated, and the Wild will need to find a way to counter that motivation. Keeping the Canucks off the board for the entire first period was a huge morale boost in the last game, and gave the Wild the ability to play their own game, rather than chance the Nucks. Any way the Wild can find to slow the Flames down is just going to create frustration in the Flames roster.
One possible counter measure is the return of Kaptain Mikko Koivu to the line up. It would be difficult to believe that the Wild are not going to come out with a little extra jump in their legs with the return of Koivu. Will that jump be enough to propel them to a win? Who knows, but it certainly isn't going to hurt their chances.
For those backing the Dive for Top Five, both the Habs and the Isles are idle tonight, meaning a win for the Wild moves them back into the fifth draft spot. A Wild loss makes everything remain as they are. The Oilers are in action against the Bolts, and the Oilers sit four points behind the Wild in the standings.
Enjoy the game.
