The 2011-12 season for the Florida Panthers was a shock to many, if not all of the hockey world. After trading away NHL level players for picks, and then going on a spending spree in free agency, the Panthers made a run all the way to the playoffs, and even put up a good fight there.
That is all very good for hockey in Florida, as winning programs add fans, no matter where they are located. With most of the team coming back for another round next season, there is no reason to doubt the Panthers can do it all again. This year's first rounder very likely won't be immediate help for the Panthers, but the player selected is certainly going to add to the depth of the organization, something that can never be overdone.
Time to pick for our friends in Sunshine.
