Finishing second in the Stanley Cup Playoffs has to be equal parts suckitude and pure. There are 28 teams that would kill to have the chance, and yet being that team that made it, but didn't win... that has to suck. It would take me some time to decide if I wanted to be bounced in the first round, or make it all the way to the Cup finals just to lose.
Still, at least it gave Devils fans (and players) something to talk about other than Zach Parise, so there's that.
The other interesting note on this pick is that the Devils have to forfeit a first round pick between now and the 2014 draft as punishment for the Ilya Kovalchuk contract. They chose not to forfeit the 29th pick in this year's draft, which tells me there is someone they really want that may be available late, or they have a trade in the works that may involve their first rounder.
Maybe a swap of first round picks for the rights to Parise? Who knows. Pure speculation. Time to vote.
