Yesterday, the two sides that can actually do something about the pending NHL lockout met for what is being called "a couple hours," to discuss the issues at hand. If I had to guess, the conversation likely revolved around who they thought was going to win the Super Bowl and the proper way to cut dovetail joints when building drawers for a kitchen.
Both sides were silent coming out of the meeting, which some are claiming is a good side since neither side seemed interested in using the media as a tactic to further their cause. To me, it seems like everyone is so desperate for good news that the power players not saying anything seems to be a "no news is good news" situation.
I'm a little more bitter and jaded (and Minnesotan), so when the two sides meet, and no one is talking, I figure they are just being passive aggressive and refusing to speak, because they were taught to not speak when they don't have anything nice to say. But hey, if people want to be positive about the fact the two sides sat down an talked for two hours with a week to go before the lockout starts, more power to you.
For me, it's going to take a little bigger show that they actually want to get this done, such as both sides coming out holding hands and singing the latest Justin Bieber song.
I wouldn't hold my breath. No word on when talks will resume again.
