So, Who Still Plays for the Wild?

New, comments

It’s been about 150 days since hockey was last played, and I know some of us may be confused about our team. Who’s gone? Who’s still here? Did we sign anybody new? Well, let me help out with that with a roster recap for you. I believe Bryan is doing a more detailed inventory, but here's the quick and dirty.

Let’s start with who’s gone: The Wild said adios to Guillame Latendresse, Kurtis Foster, Warren Peters, Jed Ortmeyer, Jeff Penner, Nick Johnson, Greg Zanon, Marek Zidlicky, and Nick Schultz.

Now, the newcomers: The Wild welcomed, Zenon Konopka, Torrey Mitchell, Zach Parise and Ryan Suter. Yeah, remember the day we signed Parise and Suter. It was a little bit awesome.

So what does that leave us?

We’ll start with forwards: Dany Heatly, Devon Setoguchi, Matt Kassian, Darroll Powe, Torrey Mitchell, Zach Parise, Pierre Marc Bouchard (if healthy and rumors are that he is), Cal Clutterbuck, Matt Cullen, Kaptain Mikko Koivu, Mikael Granlund (Finnish Baby Jesus), Kyle Brodziak, and Zenon Konopka.

Hoping for a forward spot are Stephane Veilleux, Jake Dowell, Jason Zucker, Charlie Coyle, Johan Larsson, Nick Palmieri, Justin Fontaine, and David McIntyre. Nick Palmieri, per Russo, is expected to get the 50th roster contract.

Moving to defense: There is newcomer, Ryan Suter, Jared Spurgeon, Marco Scandella (currently with a groin injury), Tom Gilbert (aka Not Nick Schultz), Clayton Stoner, Justin Falk, and Nate Prosser. Matt Dumba has also been invited to camp.

Our Goaltending remains the same with the tandem of Niklas Backstrom and Josh Harding with Matt Hackett and Darcy Keumper being injury call ups if needed.

Who we might see: The injury gods have never been kind to us, so let’s take a look at who’s waiting in the wings in Houston.

On Forward, we have: Nick Petersen (RW), Derek Couture (RW), Kris Foucault (LW), Brett Bulmer (LW), Jarod Palmer(RW), Chad Rau (C), Justin Fontaine (RW), Rob Mignardi (RW), Zack Phillips (C), and Joel Broda(LW).

And defensemen we might see include: Tyler Cuma (on the occasion that he’s healthy), Chay Genoway, Jonas Brodin (currently injured), Steve Kampfer, Brian Connelly, Kyle Medvec, Kris Fredheim, and Drew Bagnall.

Russo has a depth chart and potential lines which can be found here, and the Wild have their own interactive roster lineup here.

So, Wild fans, who are you looking forward to seeing this year? Anyone you’re hoping makes the team?
