Your 2013-2014 Iowa Wild opening night roster

Last week, the Iowa Wild General Manager Jim Mill has announced the opening night roster. We'll also mention some news and notes.

Bruce Bennett

The first Wild game is tomorrow night against the OKC Barons (0-2-0) and here's how the roster will look like.

Forwards: Brett Bulmer (#17), Raphael Bussieres (#18), Jake Dowell (#11), Kris Foucault (#13), Tyler Graovac (#4), Erik Haula (#9), Taylor Matson (#38), Carson McMillan (#27), Warren Peters (#25), Zack Phillips (#51), Chad Rau (#20), David Steckel (#26), and Jason Zucker (#16).

Defensemen: Corbin Baldwin (#14), Jonathon Blum (#24), Brian Connelly (#10), Tyler Cuma (61), Steven Kampfer (#21), Jon Landry (#7), Kyle Medvec (#8) and Carl Sneep (#3).

As for goaltenders, with Darcy Kuemper being up with the Minnesota Wild, it'll be interesting to see how Johan Gustafsson (#31) should handle a #1 job in the AHL for a little moment. John Curry (#33) will be the backup after being initially released from his PTO earlier this week. The team signed Curry to a standard player contract yesterday.

Some line combinations during an exhibition game were Dowell-Steckel-McMillan, Zucker-Haula-Matson, Bussieres-Graovac-Phillips and Foucault-Rau-Bulmer. As coach Kleinendorst said in this interview with Joe O'Donnell, the early season can be a little bit hit and miss.

Not to mention, there's a veteran rule in the league. From the AHL rule book:

Each Member club must dress for each regularly scheduled or playoff game at least twelve (12) players, other than goalkeepers, who have played in a total of not more than two hundred sixty (260) regular season games in the National Hockey League, American Hockey League or any European Elite League, prior to the start of the season and one (1) player, other than goalkeepers, who has played in a total of not more than Three-Hundred and Twenty (320) regular season games in the National Hockey League, American Hockey League or any European Elite League, prior to the start of the season. Any player that participates in European Elite League games during a hockey season which the player would be eligible to play in the Canadian Hockey League (excluding an over-age year) shall not have such games count in the calculation of the two hundred sixty (260) regular season games. Players on loan from the National Hockey League for a first fourteen day conditioning period shall not be affected by the aforesaid experience requirement.

In other Iowa Wild news and notes:

-Josh Caron and Colton Jobke have been reassigned to the Orlando Solar Bears and the Wild released Marshall Everson, Mark Guggenberger, Blake Kessel and Nicholas Rioux.

-The organization announced last week a two-year broadcast agreement with KXNO 1460.

-The team will have 5 live games on television this season.

-Interesting fact: 19 players, on opening night, have a Twitter account. Baldwin, Curry, Rau and Steckel don't have one.
