University of Minnesota and Team USA forward Amanda Kessel is No. 8 on The Hockey News's "Top 10 Players of 2013," written by senior writer Ken Campbell.

The Patty Kazmaier Award winner not only led the Gophers to a national title, but also scored the game-winner in the gold medal game of the Women's World Championship against Canada, with the Americans winning 3-2.

According to her bio, in the 2012-13 season she became only the fourth player in NCAA history to reach 100 points in a single season, with 101 on the year. She was also chosen by fans as the Most Dynamic Player of 2013 in USA Today's Ad Meter: Year in Sports contest, and brushes shoulders with Patrick Kane, Sidney Crosby and Alexander Ovechkin on the THN list.

Right now, Kessel is competing alongside four of her Gophers teammates (Gigi Marvin, Anne Schleper, Megan Bozek and Lee Stecklein) with Team USA as it tunes up and gets its roster finalized for the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi. The USA is playing four nationally televised games against Canada, the third of which will be tomorrow night in St. Paul, Minn., on NBC Sports Network. TV listings are here.
