With this being the first week of our Aeros updates, there is a bit of a recap of the last few weeks as well. Typically, we’ll be recapping the last week of games and updating any roster changes and/or interesting stat changes that happened over the week. Feel free to ask any questions about the team and we’ll answer them as best we can. Now, on to the update!
The Aeros are on the tail end of a hectic road schedule. Of their last 15 games (starting Jan 19th), only 3 of those games were played in Houston. They have one more away game this week, a home game on Saturday, and then 4 more road games before returning back to Houston on March 14th. Just shy of a 2 month period with only 4 home games. Pretty sucky for fans in Houston.
Thankfully, the Aeros have been doing pretty well on this stretch. Darcy Kuemper and Matt Hackett have combined for 9 wins (5 for Kuemper and 4 for Hackett) on this road trip stretch. Since the beginning of February the Aeros are 6-4, with two of those wins coming from shootouts (sound familiar?). This makes the Aeros record 27-19-4-3, and puts them in 3rd in the South Division, but 5th in overall Western Conference. Their record is also good enough to place them 9th overall in the AHL.
It should come as no surprise that Jason Zucker is leading the Aeros in point totals (41), goals (19) and assists (22). Justin Fontaine follows with 33 pts (13G and 20A), and Johan Larsson (13G, 14A), Charlie Coyle (14G, 11A) and David McIntyre (11G, 11A) round out the top five point getters for the Aeros.
Looking ahead to the next week the Aeros play two games, both of which are against the Oklahoma City Barons (baby oilers). The game Friday night is in OKC at 7pm, and the game Saturday is at 7:50 in Houston. With the Wild off Friday night, it might be a good time to tune in and see how the rest of the kids are doing without Zucker, Larsson and Kuemper. The Aeros have a partnership with a local radio station in Houston to air their game feeds, and it is available on iheartradio. The station is KNTH 1070am Houston.
As of right now, this is the Aeros playing roster. It changes about every three days, as the Aeros try to find people to fill whatever holes open up with call ups and injuries.
