Good morning Wilderness, another Monday morning graces us with a loss and a hangover the size of Calgary. The Minnesota Wild have 3 games remaining to prove they belong in the playoffs or find themselves outside looking in yet again. It could be worse I suppose, Edmonton is booking some early tee times for the 7th consecutive season.
As of right now your Minnesota Wild still hold on to 7th place overall in the West, tied in points with the Columbus Blue Jackets but hold the tie-breaker by virtue of the regulation and overtime wins (Wild: 20, 'lumbus: 17). The Detroit Red Wings and Dallas Stars are sniffing around, sitting just 3 points back of the 8th seed. Detroit has 4 games left to play while Dallas has 3 and Columbus has just 2 remaining on this seasons schedule. With 3 games remaining ourselves we need to figure something out, and fast.
A little positive spin on things, if the Wild do hold on to the 7th or 8th seed they are locking up away ice advantage. With how the Wild are playing at home recently this could only be a good thing, a little road cooking is just what we need. Unfortunately though, 2 of our remaining 3 games are at home, which hasn't been kind to us and could end up being the death nail in the coffin.
The month of April has not been kind to the Wild. With just 19 GF and 33 GA and sporting a record of just 3-7-1. Since ripping off 7 consecutive wins in the middle of March, this squad has won just 4 games and are bringing a whole new meaning to backing into (or out of) the playoffs.
