I'm a sucker for the classics.
As you are probably aware, the Minnesota Wild clinched a trip to the Stanley Cup Playoffs with their 3-1 victory over the Colorado Avalanche last night. This is the Wild's first trip to the second season since winning their only divisional title in the 2007-08 season. Some will tell you the Wild only won because of a disallowed goal when it was determined Chuck Kobesew kicked in what would have been the go-ahead goal for the Avs. Some will say that cost Columbus to miss the playoffs as well. I'm sorry, but that is just bullshit. If your going to sit there and blame the refs for not allowing Columbus to sneak in, I will counter with the refs then were instrumental in the Wild not winning the division. With all the missed calls this year, they easily had an impact on the season and where we finished.
Every team has nights like that, where you are wronged by the refs. We all think it happens to just our team as well, when in reality, it happens to everyone or it happens not at all. Contrary to popular belief, the refs on ice are not, in fact, zebras. They are human beings, and we as humans are doomed to make mistakes. Hell, even Zebras are bound to make mistakes! Conspiracy, I think not. It came out after the fact the "goal" was in fact ruled a no goal on the ice after the refs conferred, they went to Toronto to confirm and the outcome we all know. Sorry Columbus, nothing against you (well, maybe a little), maybe next year ...
