On the board: Flying Finns!. You have until 1:23PM CDT to make your pick!
DAY 13 RECAP
The day quickly picked up with the third round of the draft half way done.
Many were surprised to see Laurent Dauphin and John Hayden fall to the third round but the Philadelphia Flyers and Montreal Canadiens took the chance to snatch them off the board.
Most of the big names are off the board so now will be a good judge of which GMs have done their homeworkwork.
Day 14 begins with the Winnipeg Jets!
DAY 13 SELECTIONS
66TH OVERALL - The Carolina Hurricanes select Finnish goaltender Juuse Saros from HPK of the Finnsh Junior League.
General Manager wild32384:
Juuse Saros lacks the height of other top goaltending prospects but he is a technically adept goaltender that uses angles and outstanding athleticism to compensate for that perceived shortcoming. His biggest strengths include his ability to compete, his penchant for stopping second and third chance opportunities, and the mental composure to quickly put goals behind him. Saros has the strength, durability and stamina to play every night – having played over 50 games in back-to-back seasons over the past two years.
67TH OVERALL - The Calgary Flames select powerforward Hudson Fasching from the USA U-18 team of the USHL.
General Manager niemonster3:
Hudson Fasching. He is a strong skating high character power wing who could be a dominating player down the road. He has a really quick stick and and an excellent snap shot. High Hockey IQ, he is already a great wall player at 6 foot 3, 190. His all-around skill level is well above average and he shoots the puck, passes the puck, and chases the puck like a future NHLer. Displays excellent ability when in tight on goalmouth flurries. Needs a bit more development time, but is a fine long term prospect.
68TH OVERALL - The Dallas Stars select mobile defensive defenseman Linus Arnesson from Djugarden of Sweden
General Manager Mike Murphy "Dig Deep":
A good-sized physical blueliner Arnesson is one of the best available blueliners still on the board and it is my opinion that Dallas needs some fresh faces on their blueline in the coming years. Although he is yet another left-hander joining a backline with a glut of southpaws Arnesson is a solid defender that keeps the game simple and looks like he can be physical presence on the ice. A combination of size, smarts, and toughness Arnesson could be a great fit in Dallas despite not having a lot of upside or potential to be a flashy or sexy pick.
69TH OVERALL - The Buffalo Sabres select goal-scoring powerforward Adam Tambellini from the Surrey Eagles of the BCHL
HW Danccchan's take:
Skilled goal-scoring powerforward who is extremely raw physically. Standing at around 6’3", he is very lanky at around 165lbs and can easily be pushed off the puck, but he has a great nose for the net. The idea of having a 6-3 goal-scorer is a very interesting one for the Sabres
70TH OVERALL - The Nashville Predators select speedy Anthony Duclair from the Quebec Remparts of the QMJHL
General Manager No O in Predators!:
Yet another top 6 forward for the Predators to develop. At the start of the 2012-13 season, Duclair was considered a potential first round pick. The season has been tough as his stock has dropped all year long. The main reasons are an early ankle injury, a suspension by the team and a lack of defensive effort from the speedy left wing. While Duclair does not fit the mold of a normal Nashville pick, Maybe it is time to take a gamble and help him to develop his defensive game. The scouting report sums up the reason why he is worth the gamble, a speedster with enough talent to use that speed effectively:
"Duclair possess one of the best skating strides in the entire 2013 draft class. The first thing that jumps out about him is the high speed he plays at. He consistently beats defensemen out wide. His acceleration is very impressive and he gets to his top speed very quickly. He’s incredibly agile and a very shifty skater. He has very impressive puck skills considering he’s constantly at high speeds. Duclair has the puck on a string at times, and can make defensemen and goalies alike look silly. He’s very creative with the puck on his stick and is incredibly dangerous 1-on-1 or on a breakaway. His shot is accurate and comes off with a good release. He has the ability to make crisp, accurate passes and find open teammates but is considered more of a finisher."
71st OVERALL - The Montreal Canadiens select versatile Laurent Dauphin from Chicoutimi of the QMJHL.
HW Danccchan's take:
Versatile forward that works hard and has good hockey sense to just make things happen. He isn’t a flashy player, not big, not overly fast, but somehow just produces plays and points. A great do-it-all player.
72ND OVERALL - The Philadelphia Flyers select powerforward John Hayden from the USA U-18 team of the USHL
HW Danccchan's take:
Big powerforward that has some skill in his game. He might have a bit of a heavy first step but can some strong strides when he gets going, and can he really drive to the net and is hard to handle along the boards.
73RD OVERALL - The Phoenix Coyotes select offensive Emile Poirier from Gatineau of the QMJHL
General Manager jerem77:
A speedy forward with a good shot. Has been trending upward in his draft year.
