The Minnesota Wild will now be known as the Comeback Kids after tonight's amazing shootout win over the Los Angles Kings. Despite missing Mikko Koivu, Zach Parise, Josh Harding, and Jared Spurgeon, the young kids stepped up big time to walk away with two points.
The biggest story of the night by far was the play of goaltender Darcy Kuemper. Many Wild fans were unimpressed with his two NHL starts this season, and were unwilling to look towards the success he's had in the AHL recently.
He proved all of his doubters wrong by stopping 39 of the 40 shots sent his way, and denying every single Kings player in the shootout. Without Kuemper, the team wouldn't have won, plain and simple.
The kids all stepped up and played their hearts out. Nino Niederreiter scored the lone Wild goal in regulation, and the only shootout goal in the game. Mikael Granlund was all over the ice, throwing hits and setting up some great passes. At one point, Granlund actually face-planted in the faceoff dot (mostly likely due to exhaustion).
Hopefully the team rests up tonight and tomorrow. They take on the Phoenix Coyotes Thursday night at 8pm.
