Game Preview: Wild @ Avs

New, comments

What an opener it was. Now Minnesota travels to Colorado to complete the home and home.

Marilyn Indahl-USA TODAY Sports

The X was rockin' on Thursday as the team of 18,000 cheered on the Wild to a 5-0 win over the #WhyNotUs Avalanche. Minnesota out-shot Colorado 48-16. The Wild’s 48 shots set a new franchise record for most  ever in a single game. Darcy Kuemper was perfect between the pipes, despite not facing that much adversity. Kuemper will get the start again tonight, even though Backstrom does have very good career numbers against Colorado. But I guess I'm a smartass... Now Minnesota enters the Pepsi Center for a rematch against Colorado.

Minnesota will look to be a more consistent team on the road this season. Last year they won just 5 of their first 15 games away from the X but they did finish 11-5-4 in the final 20 road games of last season. Although the Wild dominated the Avs, they will be expecting a much different team tonight. Patrick Roy is one crazy dude, and you know his kids team is going to come out a lot stronger than on Thursday.

Patrick Roy had some kind words to say about Matt Cooke. If you recall, Matt Cooke took out Tyson Barrie's knee in the playoffs. Welp, Roy was pretty open about how he felt... Nothing was really made of it on Thursday, but you have to imagine the Colorado faithful will be letting Cooke hear it. Minnesota has had success in this building, and we'll see if they can keep it going. Go Wild!
